Questions for Epic?

Continued Linux Support? I'm nervous that the MS/Epic relationship is going to put them firmly in DirectX land and linux/OpenGL users will be left behind.
I actually doubt it. Since Epic is an engine developer, it's to their benefit to continue to produce multi-platform engines. Linux support is particularly important for online games for which users host servers (such as UT).

Heh, Nappe, I was thinking of pinball, too. Either that or Jazz Jackrabbit. Maybe JJ Pinball? ;)

Dave, I can't wait to see if you teased any Xb2 (and hence R500-ish) info out of them. GamesDomain managed to finagle this gem out of Tim:

"We have the engine running really well on the development kit for one next-generation console."

which makes for an interesting contrast to the "about 25 to 30 frames per second" of the 6800[U, I'm guessing], that Sr. Sweeney describes as "not incredibly fast." I'm trying to figure out if I can compare "really well" to "not incredible fast" in any reasonable manner.

A PR blitz for Epic is interesting this far out from their projected release date. Do they really pick up engine licensees with these sorts of interviews, or is this just a typical consumer-consciousness exercise? And does Tim look forward to these press junkets, given the expected over-analysis given to his replies?

Well, maybe you can save those for your next interview. ;)

Well, was SM3.0/+ confirmed, or is it still just assumed? I'd also be surprised if a console would outperform a high-end PC with a 6800U, so I'm not sure if Tim's performance comments are at all comparable ("really well" for a console, or in general?).

But I don't really keep up with consoles as much as with PC kit, so sorry if I'm asking the already obvious. I mean, I know about the leaked diagram and the dev kits, but Tim's performance assessment surprised me.

my question (quite different ;) )
- Is there plans for a sequel to good old Epic Pinball? :) IMO, with nowadays tech, you could make pretty awesome pinball simulator. :)

Seconded, forget unreal, lets see pinball! (For real!)

SM3.0 pinball with hdr, awesome ;)

I found these interviews over at Eurogamer...thanks Homelanfed :)

Part 1
Part 2

oooh... there's even a video of it (bitorrent).:D

now for B3D.....;)

Mark Rein: The new engine is very much designed for multi-threading, so I assume one of the threads going to be compressing and uncompressing stuff almost all of the time.

Not very surprising considering the "information" about the next gen consoles :)
