PS3 (Euro?) Slogan revealed

Found this on GAF, this seems to be the first part of the campaign.

SCEE will be releasing 6 short films, "about PLAYSTATION3". There's a trailer here:

Nice music. The first one is supposed to be released..somewhere..today. I'm not sure what site this stuff is all on. I'll update when I know more :p

In the US, I predict it will be: "Check out our Spiderman font!"

A bit off-topic. but imo, the price for the most awful and failed ad campaign would go to the xbox campaign with the flying baby - old man - grave, and the slogan "Life Is Short" or something like that.
That was depressing! The visuals was cool, but the message was sooo wrong.
Whatever! That one was an instant classic! "Life is short... play hard!" :D

Yeah, I'm not too keen on the slogan or commercial yet. I hope that first one linked it just the "at show intro" or a really SHORT-run one they do to attract people's attention. The "short film" ones are more where they'd strut their stuff, and I don't know what the heck to expect from them thus far.

There's a PS3 trailer downloadable for PSP on the yourpsp site.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to login there yesterday so can't tell whether it's the same as in youtube above.

I just... Don't get it... The two different fonts (the Sound of Music one and the Spiderman one) are so contrasting that it's like they fight each other. Like the PS3 is this sort of multi media hub with such different features that they fight for the same space...

... Sorry that was just me trying to make sense of the writing...

Another quality Sony Flash website. They do those things well. Looking at HS though, some of the info on that website isn't to be trusted. They show one of the concept renders among the in-game shots. The Motorstrom pics are in-game though, so maybe NT reached that concept render target? :D

There's a little more FUD too. On the ask any questions, for BRD I'm told it can hold uncompressed HD movies and audio. I guess they never specify how long that uncompressed movie is... Then click on the Buying PS3 link and be told what to look for in buying a TV set. What was LB saying about a push to sell new TVs :D

One movie is up called 'Real Time'. It's about boxers and shows how wonderful the world is being realtime, with realtime decision making by us who populate it. It totally downplays current AI as though every aspect to current games were predetermined. It finishes with a little snippet of Resistance:FOM footage. To be honest, if AI is that advanced like us, games will become very hard.

@ LB - I think the one font is the hardware (PlayStation) and the other is the experience. They couldn't really use harmonious fonts if one is a well-'ard kickin' high-tech monster thing, and the other is a homely invitation into a loving entertainment environment run by the kindly Uncle Sony.

Nice video. They do actually apply some relevance to it all, not something totally abstract. Has a nice instructional tone

You can see the HDD on the specs page..just a regular old 2.5" HDD :p

and the spec site shows clearly 2x BRD drive so no speculation anymore there (if it wasnt discussed already... problably yes a lot :p )

It's subtle, but it seems they've added a little to the design. You can see on the specs page - there's a little sloping silver/steel 'stand' on the front bottom of the machine now.

There's also a picture of the removeable, standard HDD:

I guess so. Looks to much in the Eyeball vein for my tastes. They ought to have gone with something classier, like a brushed-Alu cylindrical camera. As it'll be more prominant than the console it needs a better image.

The "This Is Living" slogan is actually quite clever.
Goes well with the "Cell" processor and Folding at PS3, and of course the High Definition and "Realistic" games graphics (marketing speek).
It gives a very positive, happy image without being primary colours and silly.

Of course the message won't hit home in the oh so self-conscious web forums and 'sites, but as marketing I can see it being quite effective.

Yea, This Is Marketing, and should be discussed in that point of view, not whether Sony LIEEESS!! or whatever funboi dribble.

I agree, looks generic cheapo PC webcam with tacky trimmings.

With these different promo films, the whole "this is living" slogan is really coming together in my head much easier. Its almost genius how they link the two really different scenarios to features of the ps3. boxing to AI, antiques to blu-ray, cup stacking to the cell, etc. Before I was like...ok, "this is living", thats cool but doesnt really mean anything. These films let you see a bigger picture sort to speak.

There's more detail on the campaign here if anyone's interested:

The short films will be shown in cinemas. Interesting also that the original trailer was suggestive of typically abstract Playstation ads, but they actually are more directly informative about specific benefits/features of the system (even if in a very 'marketing-speak' way). I think they strike a unusually good balance between being actually informative, and being "lifestyle" and carrying good imagery...the first couple are quite clever at least.

BTW, apparently one of the spots will be on cinematic production - showing the motion capture process used in Heavenly Sword :) Thinking about it, with Andy Serkis on board, it's probably quite a good idea to make marketing capital out of that and show how far games have come. The bikes one will apparently be about the motion sensitive controller (you can see how that'd work well).
