Not sure whether this has been stated, but when Lighting Quality is set to Very High in FarCry, Nvidia FX cards as well as ATI use PS/VS 2.0 according to an HardOCP review.

"Here is what we found out with this game. In order to enable Pixel and Vertex Shader 2.0 you have to set the Lighting Quality under the Advanced Video menu to “Very Highâ€￾. Only with this setting at “Very Highâ€￾ will you have PS/VS 2.0 effects on both cards. It seems whatever problem there was in the demos the full version game has been fixed, you can get PS/VS 2.0 on GeForceFX cards, just make sure to put Lighting Quality on “Very Highâ€￾."

I was under the assumption that the FX still used a mix on very high, for Brent's sake I find myself almost hoping [H] is right!

According to the review it's only after installing the 1.1 patch that the FX cards use PS2. He also noted that lighting looked poorer on the FX due to PP used with PS2 .

I could be wrong, but I read the article as indicating FX cards use PS2 out-of-the-box when lighting is set to "Very High". The 1.1 patch adds performance and new features, but also some quality issues were introduced not found otherwise. Since patch 1.2 is in the works expect to see this corrected.

Some of those FX shots are pretty ugly though.

Looks like NVidia resorted to point sampling in a couple! Probably just another driver bug - it's not going to help performance.

digitalwanderer, some of the image differences seem to be beyond precision changes, so you may be right.

Wait that's strange. Doomtrooper with a nvnews link that can't be right. I thought you never go there? :D

That's not really a revelation over at [H], though you don't get even half the effects of 2.0 with everything else set to medium.

It's the Far Cry 1.1 patch that is destroying IQ, and not drivers as far as I can discern.

Wasen't the IQ terrible on the FX before the patch as well?

I wouldn't call it terrible...

from what I have seen it was not bad at all... perhaps not as good as ati's @ max details but w/o max details not much difference from the screenies I had seen...
