PowerColor Evil Commando RADEON 9000, RV250 or R300 ?

What the hell is up with PCPOP? They seem to be a step ahead of the rest at the moment, good on'em. If only I could read chinese!

For me it's enough:

Hope is R300, otherwise we can pretty say "GoodBye" to the 9xxx = DX9 chips, 8xxx = DX8 chips and so on.

Yeah, I thought same thing... a bit NV-style move... gf4MX... :(

Sadly, as this seems to be a 7500 replacement, it is almost exactly like the GF4MX move. The only possible redemption is that DX 9 versus DX 8 isn't in the same league as DX 8 versus DX 7, besides which DX 9 isn't out, therefore the user isn't getting screwed as much.

The problem is that the benchmarks seem to have the 9000 slower than the 8500, so even though the uninformed user isn't getting screwed as comprehensivly, they are still being misled in the same general spirit.

Perhaps it is too early to evaluate this with surety, but things do seem this way right now.

Whether or not the naming is a problem, IMO, depends largely on 2 things:

1) Does the 9000 perform better than the 8500 in most cases?
2) What will the R-300 based products be called?

I would have much preferred ATI stuck with the 8xxx = DirectX 8 convention. But if the R-300 boards are billed as Radeon "10000s" (or given a whole new name altogether), then that's not too bad. Then at least the "next gen" DX9 part would not be in the same number classification as a DX8 part.

The big problem would be if the R-300 comes out as something like the Radeon 9700. Which, sadly, is what the rumor mill seems to be saying is what will happen.

T2k,

I speak Chinese, and I read and write Chinese, too.

Ha ha ! I am from Hong Kong as you can read from my profile. ;)

Good for you, man!

There wasn't offense! I was just curious! (And too lazy to check your profile ) :)

BTW, my native is hungarian... more unique, I think... ;)

Don't rub it in. :D

My French isn't too bad and I can converse with taxi drivers in Malay (assuming they speak Malay of course). :)

MuFu.

From what I've done these few days, it is a RV250.

no, it's running slower than 8500 in all the cases, but the driver I used is very very early version.
2) What will the R-300 based products be called?
no idea.

I love Powercolor. They consistently come up with the coolest product names.

Evil Commando
Evil Knight
Evil Rush
Evil Master
Evil Kyro
Evil Queen
Evil King
Revenger
SNiper
PowerGene
S-pilot
X-Demon
X-Fire
X-Trio

I think they should rename the company to Evil Powercolor.
