Playstation 3 Pre-Orders

Went to Electronics Boutique (EB) today here in Vancouver, Canada, and asked about pre-orders, and they said they are not taking any till they are told by Sony, how many they can receive, as they will only take as many pre-orders as stock they can get. But they had a sign up sheet that they have had for a few weeks with which to phone people to let them know when pre-orders will be available, and they had quite a few sheets with names. Looked like over 200 names! That's insane! I don't know how I am going to get a PS3 this year, but when they start the pre-orders I will try and get my name down, but since everyone and his dog will want one, looks like the chances of me getting a PS3 this year, is slim.

Asked at the Sony Store in the same mall, as they surprisingly take pre-orders also, and they just said, they will start taking them in May.

Just wait, and see what the bundles these stores force on you. I would not be surprised that 4 game bundles will be the norm for this launch. I guess I can always try Zellers?

It's the same where I am, some stores have "interest" lists, whereby they'll call you once they have a date/price to ask if you still want to preorder. Don't be disheartened by the lengths of the lists - some people may abandon their interest latterly.

I think your best bet is to get on as many "interest" lists as possible, and to get as many preorders as possible (as long as desposits aren't required, I guess..but even if they are, you could sell unneeded ones later). You'll increase your chances to get your hands on a day one shipment if you've spread your bets across multiple stores.

The list I put my name on was about 30 people for ps3 and about 20 for rev.

Maybe if sony issues a price since te verdict seems to be out still on that.

the preorders will start the day after the sony conference at E3 when they give a date.

A specific date may not be forthcoming at E3. They may easily wait til later in the Summer or even TGS to provide that. They announced PSP's date and price just a month and a half before launch, so..

I've read that GAME in the UK are doing pre-orders for PS3 pre-orders, is this true?

They are "interest lists" as Edge described. You can put down your name and number, and when preorders are available they'll call you and ask you if you want to get one.
