OpenEXR format HDR won't survive...

Since it is a HDR format like HDR and even Tiff FP I am sure it will survive. Anyways it is great for use in lighting calculations using image base lighting where you can take advantage of increase luminence and a lighting solution already figured out meaning less calculation needed on the computing end. Even textures it gives a richer look then a 8 bit format per channel texture.

One thing to consider is that HDR has to be tone mapped to be displayed on the rather low dynamic range monitors being used. In this case HDR is very similar looking to bloom. If HDR monitor where readily available and used I am very sure bloom and HDR would look much different with HDR utterly breath taking.
