I was gonna post this elsewhere (diff site), but here seems more apt since the readers are a bit older, thus perhaps can remember the 80s.
OK Ive made literally 100s of games in my life, but one thing I havent done yet(*) is an real old skool 'gallery' shmup, eg space invaders, galaxian, gyruss, galaga etc, now my initial idea was to have to player on the outside of a planet shooting the aliens, like in the screenshots. I dont think anyones done this viewpoint yet
but I also tried the reverse, more standard (aliens in middle, player on the outside) thus galaga like, ala a tube shooter. but I had a google
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/r_gyruss_360
seems like this version wasnt well liked (OK its only eurogamer which I typically dont agree with)
1. Are ppl not into these sort of games any more? Is it really only us 30plusers that like them, then again geometry wars (which was a big hit) is just robotron updated.
2. Are there any other shmup games with a similar premise (like above screenshot), player in middle, enemy surrounded
(*)at least I dont think I have
