Nvidia Pascal Announcement

This should be obvious...

How it looks:

How Nvidia want it to look:

They all still show the same +15%, +25% and +45%.

Nvidia does not have a graph like your last one so that is pure hyperbole.

Apparently, Creative Assembly still isn't sure if Pascal cards will support Async Compute in DX12 for their Total War: Warhammer (which BTW has been publicly made available through their latest patch).

They definitely seem to do more thorough testing with AMD cards for obvious reasons agreed - or is it the shortage of GP104?

edit:
Just checked, they just don't have a GTX 1080 in their database yet, as indicated by thegfx.log.txt, hence "?".

If we take this at face value, we have the 1060 at 15% faster than a 480, with 25% less bandwidth, and (if we take the upper estimate of 200mm2), a die size that's 15% smaller, in a process that's supposed to have 10% less density.

That's a perf/mm2 difference of 35% in die size alone, or 50% if you adjust for process. It think Nvidia's margins will do just fine.

Too bad that Nvidia doesn't have anything in the sub-$500 range.

It would be nice if the 6GB 1060 was $249. Sadly, I expect it will be $299, so I will probably stick with a custom 480.

Well with the current AMD debacle $300 bucks looks likely.
Yeah, I just can't bring myself to pay that much for a 6GB card that I know is a heavily cut down die on which Nvidia is already making bank... Maybe I will be nicely surprised, but I doubt it. It will probably have a small performance edge over the 480, and Nvidia has probably correctly surmised they can get away with $299 based on performance and brand. Ah well, nothing to do but wait and see...

hopefully they are at 250, that would be the best spot for them, as silent_guy stated, they will have very good margins at that price.

I kind of expect that the 6GB GTX 1060 will MSRP for that $249 and the 3GB 1060 will be $199. The GTX 1060FE maybe $30-$50 higher.

I actually expect similar..maybe $219 for the 3 GB card though. I cant see a $50 difference for just 3 GB of GDDR5. $299 would push it too close to a $379 8 GB 1070 (Assuming you can buy one at that price that is...)

And hypothetically leave some room for the 1060ti 8 GB at $300 ....

So you expect GTX 1060 to be GP 104 based then?

Nvidia being Nvidia, I can see them trying to get away with 329 - 349 US-Dollar...

One thing for sure, Nvidia will ensure they have a much healthier product margin with the 1060 than AMD with the 8GB 480.
Kinda irritates me Nvidia will cut this so much and yet probably charge close to $300.
Will be amusing to see how they price a FE in this segment :)

Cheers

Unless GP106 is ready for launch in two weeks... I haven't really been keeping up with things lately, so I don't know. It is also possible the 1060 could be split across both chips, cut down 104s and full 106s. If they are same # of ROPs, memory width, memory amount, shader count, clocks.... I'd expect performance to be near identical.

And they might even get away with that... But at $299 they can probably make bank and tell people what a good deal they are getting :nope: and most will believe it.
