NV40 Test samples, pics inside

I'm sure this has been answered elsewhere, but with all the talk of caps the question that arises from the Maximum PC article on NV40 is which model was this?:

Seems there are about 4 different pictures/versions floating around on the web.

About the number of caps

I seem to remember some previous leaked PR images for some card in the NV3x line that only had a few but the final production cards had more than in the leaked pics.

Anyone else remember this? Or am I hallucinating about remembering things I saw?

As I remember it they actually had more capacitors in the preproduction boards, and fewer in the shipping ones. Almost certain about that. At the time of the infamous flickering problem I gave that a lot of thought, as insufficient power regulation could possibbly give such problems.

Never would have thought they make tantalum caps with packaging other than the common cylindrical electrolyte caps, but looks like you're right

Matrox has used such tantalum capacitors for a long time, at least since the G100, maybe even since the Millenium. I have a G100 in front of me with lots of 10 microfarad ones. They are more expensive but have better characteristics.

LM

Edit: added info

precisely, so why are you trying to stick the blame on nVida then?

What am I blaming nVidia for?

You (and others in this thread) are trying to paint a picture that says nVidia is going to cheat the consumer by selling them a card purporting to run memory at 550mhz, but overclocking slower memory to do so.

Simply, you haven't seen final cards yet, only an evaluation board (which has had its slower memory clocked up to the final retail speed due to a shortage of the correct memory when it was manufactured).

let me see here, You must be so right since nvidia has ""never"" overclocked anything and sold it to people oc'd by default wich caused a good number of the cards to die very untimely deaths.

**nv30 caugh caugh** In case you dont know. Ask kyle from hardocp how many high end nv cards have died on him in the last year. He had 4 (5900 I think could be wrong) and 2 died on him a few months after he got them. He did not oc them or mis treat them in anyway that I know of.

You have to be obviously either

1. pretty outsider or
2. totally biased

to say things like this.
This company has been caught many times deceiving its customers, namely falsifying benchmarks, documents, releasing fake specifications, etc.
They DID release their last technology change (NV30) in an already overclocked form to remain somehow competitive - actually it was soooo badly designed that they were forced to stop the production almost immediately and replace it within a few month.

This company has a multiple times proven track record as a CHEATER, faker, whatever.

I don't believe them ANYTHING as long as it's only on papers, not in my palm. Nothing, zero, 0.

It's not about favoring one of'em - it's about being pissed off from some arrogant @ssholes.

BTW I really hope they learned a lot from the last 18 months and we are going to see some real kick-@ss product today-tomorrow-soon...

No really?

The question is it a Legit PS done by a designer for a concept or is it a BS PS done by an idiot with free time on his hands and no brain?
