We already knew this but here is the official(ish) confirmation.

Interesting story about ATI\Nvidia market penetration in China here.

Hmm, nice confirmation. Remember I was the first one to post that the NV35 would be launched at E3, AFAIK. And anyway, I got the most coverage for it, that's undisputable ( nV News, [H], ... links )

Still wondering when the NV36 will launch, though. Probably not before Siggraph. Maybe even later.

I still can't find any geforce fx based cards at compusa. Is this going to be the same problem

Was at a Best Buy during lunch today and saw eVGA and BFG 5200s and 5600s. In fact, one of the 5600s (non-Ultra) sported 256MB for $250. Also saw my first Radeon 9200s. No 5800s (no shelf space for them) and the 9800 Pros were sold out.

I cant find any local R9700Pros OR 9800Pros up here in Canadia. :(

I posted something like this over @ Rage3D the other day. I've been keeping on eye out for availability of 9700/9800/FX's over the last few weeks, and it's amazing just how difficult it is to find!

I was actually ready to roll with a 9800...but I simply could not find one in my area. I live in a pretty good size city, and went to all the typical places...Frye's, CompUSA, Best Buy (more than 1), Circuit City, etc.

That article that was up on xbitlabs was right on the $$, IMHO.

I was in the Best Buy I used to work at today to pick up my last paycheck. I saw 1 5600 256mb, and about 10-15 cards of various flavors of 5200's. There were also about 4 9800 Pro's and about 5-6 9200 Reg's. I never once saw anything about 9200 Pro's or any 9600's when I checked the inventory system. To me, that means it's going to be a while before they get any in. The 9800's and even GFFX 5600/5200 at least had a placeholder in the inventory system even before they were announced, yet as of 2 weeks ago, nothing at all in the system.

How very strange.... the Abit FX 5800's are ready to roll down under. You can grab one from Pioneer computer Australia.

$847 inc tax is what it cost me just to get it into the shop. Probably sell for around $950.... this is not even the ultra.

Well, I'm happy to report that I've got a 9800P right now. Went to Best Buy on my way home this evening, and wouldn't you know it? About 4 new 9800's sitting on the shelf. :)

yeh its hard to set your sights on a top end graphics card when you see the price near au$1000 . at leats the 9800 is around au$850.

It sucks buying this stuff in Australia. My Geforce 3 (when it first cmae out in Australia) was $950. This was cheap and discounted from the original price, I wasn't sure what the original price was though. I know the guys there though).

This is the average typical price for nVidia products. THe higher end set of cards are usually above $1K.

Ati high end products range from $600-$800. I bought my 9700 Pro when it was new to Australia for $800.

Tell us more, when you have time to test it of course.

I haven't had much time to actually play with it. I really had to do a reinstall anyhow, as my system has been seriously chugging as of late.

My immediate impressions are as follows:

1. Amazing performance: I've been using systems with TI4200 and Parhelia for the last year now, and the performance increase is clearly noticeable.

2. Filtering: The 9800 has amazing IQ, as it relates to A.F. I don't think there's any question on this point, IMHO.

3. Antialiasing: Wow. It's so head-and-shoulders above anything from nVidia, it's not even a contest.

I have been playing games @ 1600x1200, 16x AF, and 4xAA...Those are some amazing settings in which to play games. I didn't try so in UT2003, rather going with a more conservative 12x10.

The bottom line is that (to me) regardless of what nVidia does with NV35, I have virtually no hope that it's going to be able to go toe-to-toe with the 9800/9700 in terms of IQ.

Typedef Enum,

I haven't seen you at NVNews for a while, was there a parting of ways?

I look forward to hearing your notes/reviews on the 9800 in regards to:
1 - Game compatability
2 - FSAA performance and quality
3 - Overall satisfaction

P.S.: Do you code? How/why did you get that handle? :)

Later,
Steve

Still no fx based products at my local compusa's only one of them has the 9800pro in stock though.

Just picked up a 9800 pro from CompUSA today; now my new system is complete (except for the WD raptors, which are coming Monday).

I purchased the extra warranty plan as well ($30), hoping that if the NV35 is better or ATI releases a faster setup within about a year, I can exchange the 9800 pro for that... I just hope I don't regret this somewhat-of-an-impulse-buy!

What happened @ nvnews is pretty simple...Over time, I very much got sick and tired of the nVidia BS. That's about the extent of it. There have been numerous intances in which it became too much to stomach, and it just sorta' wore on me.

I never really had a specific moment in which I left, per-se...just slowly withdrew myself from the site.
