NHL16 ... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Time for my annual NHL thread. I know you're all really excited. Looks like they're bringing back some modes/features people wanted in NHL15. I haven't even played the game in a couple iterations. They skipped the first year of next-gen and NHL15 didn't have EASHL.

EASHL is back, and so are some of the single-player things.

We’re removing the progression grind, that our fans told us created an unbalanced online experience, in favor of a new player class system. These player classes will be tuned to play together, each bringing their own strengths to the ice. The new EA SPORTS Hockey League is all about putting together the right mix of classes to support your team’s playing style, and then stepping on to the ice and letting your skill, not ratings, be the differentiator between being good and being great.

This is a nice change for EASHL. I'm guessing they'll still have progression, but it'll be more in line with FIFAs accomplishments and player types, which is much much better.

Some of the movement is very natural, just with awkward transitions. I reckon something very TV like will happen this gen, able to fool the majority of casual spectators into thinking they're watching a real match. At least, it could go that way, although gameplay might ensure transitions and movements aren't 100% natural to meet the gamers' expectations.

Yah, the animations have a long way to good, but it's probably tough to balance the quality of the animation with responsiveness. It should be the primary focus of any visual upgrades.

Goalie controls have been redone.

EASHL, the best game mode, is back. You create a player, but your stats are now fixed by the class type you choose. There are no longer experience points to spend on your attributes. There is no micro-transaction way off assigning boosts to your player. They did this to level the playing field. Great decision. It's now a skill-based game again. If you buy the game 3 months late, you won't be at a huge stat disadvantage.

ot into the sport, but there is a local team which was very good at it. What I usually get from the games is tht there are a lot of fist fights.

There actually isn't a lot of fighting in the NHL anymore. Teams have figured out that having goons that can't play are a waste of a roster position.
