New Steam survey results

One of the most popular shooters is Team Fortress 2 with 45,000 servers...

Requirements:

Team Fortress 2, Portal and Half-Life 2: Episode Two Pixel Shader 1.1 and DirectX 8.1 :)

TF2 is pretty easy on the GPU but you couldn't play it on a freaking SM1.1 card.
Also the CPU requirements are quite high if you want to play in 32 player servers.

Because you only need to run something like Rainbow Six: Las Vegas?

As soon as there were SM3 only games, I switched (thanks digi!) Not every engine out there is as versatile as Source.

Even if you only want to play SM3.0 games you'd be better off buying a SM4.0+ card today. Obviously.

Any bets on what percentage of DX11 systems Fermi will have in the April survey?(should be out next week)

For reference Radeon 5800 series has 1.82%, 5700 series 1.59%, 5900 series 0.12%

What stats are you quoting there? Overall 5800 is 1.92% and 5700 1.88%, while the DX11 only breakdown stands at 45.68% and 44.53% respectively.

Place my money on less than 0.01% of DX11 systems. I have to account for all those press-review systems, otherwise I'd say 0.00%.

I quoted the DX11 systems percentages, its after the line where it says "Physical CPUs". The figures have changed a bit from when i saw them yesterday though, they now show 1.83 and 1.62 for the 5800 and 5700 :???: I wasnt able to get any other figures for 5800 or 5700 overall. Where are your figures from? Similarly for DX11 only on the website it currently says 45.06 and 44.62 for the 5800 and 5700 respectively http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/

Looks like the numbers from the DX11 systems overall are not right, they are lower than the video cards percentages

edit: It seems the video cards general list includes march and the DX10/11 systems details only have data from February...

Probably just the effect of some people using the cards in Windows XP. The DX11 Systems only include cards running Vista/Win 7. Thats why its lower in DX11 systems

April survay is up!
NV's GTX470 makes a debut with a good 0.35% share in DX11 market. Still no sign from GTX480.

on directx 11 systems there is 0.01% for 480 :D

GTX 470 has a 0.02% DX11 system share, so 480:470 = 1:2 (though we don't have much precision with these minimal numbers).

Therefore Nvidia has a 0.5% DX11 GPU share (0.35 * 3 / 2), and AMD has a 99.5% DX11 GPU share.

It has only been 2.5 weeks, so it's a start...

Its good to see the whole of the ATI lineup finally making an appearance between the mobility series and the sub 57xx level cards which are destined as much for OEMs as the add-in market.

I wonder how much volume they are getting in terms of wafers given the short supply and poor 40nm yields thus far? Has it improved any for them over the last couple of months?

True but IMO they still havent managed to sell as well as they would have liked, esp considering they have no competition. Look at NV's Geforce 8 and 9 series of cards. The Geforce 9800+8800+9600+8600 have a combined share of around 22%(and this dosent count the various G1xx and G2xx renamed parts). The 4800 series in comparison has 8.3%. The Radeon 3xxx parts also have very poor marketshare. In the list of top 20 video cards, Nvidia cards occupy 16 slots, ATI 3 and Intel 1. Stats taken from here http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/videocard/

I guess they're probably still suffering from short supply given that TSMC hasnt increased 40nm production yet. If i remember correctly, the current supply is 40k wafers per quarter which is going to be doubled to 80k sometime in Q3. Yields should have increased a fair bit, considering its now 7 months since launch

And if you add all % changes for April, you get:

ATI: +0.72%
NV: -0.67%

(Somehow the "Video card usage by manufacturer" pie chart on the Steam Hardware Survey front page has not been updated for quite some time).
