New Resident Evil 4 screenshots

Despite the low quality of the screens, they look awesome:

Very impressive and it looks soooo good in motion. But since it's delayed to 2005 there is so much to play this year I can't really dwell on RE4 right now.

I didn't trust screenshots much before, but after doom3, I don't trust them AT ALL.

I'll wait to see the thing in motion, a player experience video could be nice too.

Trust me, I played it, and it looks as good on the screenshots. :)

I'm actually pretty interested in this game. I've hated all the RE games because of the control scheme and ridiculous inventory system, but this one seems like it will actually be good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I like the character models...but the unfortunate low amount of memory does show. :(

edit: I mean the apparent low res texturing on everything but the main characters.

ahh look at her arm !!! i need fsaa !!!

anyway it looks good. I will most likely get it haha .

Low res textures? Low res compared to what?

Check out the guy with the hood... and then look at the main character right next to him. That's not looking too good. :(

(second picture)

First pic....I don't wanna know what those two are doing.. ;)

Heh, well the screenshots in Doom 3 I would say accurately express how the game looked which is about all you should do with screenshots :p

The textures for the world are definately a little lower res in these shots than I would like. Most notably the walls in the first 2 shots. Also the wall texture was so obviously mirrored in the 2nd screenshot. They really should have messed with both the sides so it wasn't so glaring.

Yeah there are some lower res textures visible in those shots (shots of an unfinished game I might add). However originally you said there were low res textures on everything but the main characters. That's what I'm disagreeing with.

unfinished or not, I'm commenting on what I see right now. Tell me where I've judged the final game at all. ;)

Ok, so the barrel, candle holders and the church benches look good, happy?

Anyhow, something looks wrong with the screenshots themselves. It's like they took them from an interlaced signal or something.

Like, the trailer? ;)

Because... those screenshots are taken from the trailer. ;)

A. This game looks very good.

B. However, in every shot I've seen of the game.. textures on non-character objects have seemed low-res.

The leaves.. the walls.. floors.. everything. Much of it is made up for by the ample amount of geometry detail, but alas.. texture detail has been mediocre if not in the lower bracket of the detail scale..

oooooooh.....someone should have said so in the first place. :p

....does that mean the game isn't in progressive scan?

I remember Capcom saying the game will be widescreen progressive scan.

Quite honestly, that's the way every game does it. You look at your characters throughout the game and interact with them directly, while backgrounds you tend to pass by quickly and don't need as much detail.

Of course I'd be hard-pressed to call anything I've seen so far in RE4 "low res" (though I'm sure one could pick out a random texture once in a while to boo and hiss at ;) ). "Less res" sure, but still very much quality.

In your original post you attributed the lack of detail you saw entirely to a lack of ram. Which suggested to me that you weren't considering that the game is not complete (since that can also be a factor for lack of detail). That's why I mentioned it.

Not particularly no.. why would it? :)

BTW, out of interest, what do you see as low res in the last two shots.

Ah, well I usually judge a game (except Halo 2 ;) ) only on the final stuff. The scope of my comments was meant to be restricted to what we see here with respect to "everything." I do realize that a lot of graphics can just be placeholders or tweaked. :)

Last two screens: Just the wall really. It's harder to see it in the second last one because of distance which is a good thing, but it's technically still "low res."

What I mean to complain about is the visual consistency, not necessarily the technical, lower res nature. Having the main characters in view makes a noticeable contrast.

The second last shot looks great because of how the scene is being viewed. The last one looks....odd to me with the great looking characters and then the blurry wall, which isn't actually that bad, just that it is noticeably of a different quality than the main characters.

From a gaming standpoint, the low res stuff probably won't matter; all I'm commenting on is what I see right now. But, from a screenshot, it's hard not to make comments on how things look because I'm:
1) not playing the game (not focused with the story or events),
2) looking at a static image, and
3) I'm a little worried in this case. :)

And on another note, those fire effects in the second last shot could be interesting. They're a nice touch.
