New Batman Announced!

Looks like Warner Brothers is trying to revitalise it's DC comic book franchises in the face of the massive Marvel sucesses at the movies with the likes of Daredevil, X-Men 1 & 2, Hulk, Spiderman, etc. Although the Superman remake is still in limbo, WB has just announced that filming of the new Batman film set during the early part of Batman's career will start in early 2004, starring Christian Bale in the title role.

For anyone who's seen "Equilibrium", Bale should be an excellent Batman, assuming that WB actually make a film for grownups, as opposed to the last few films which were just about selling Batman merchandising to kids.

More importantly, Chris Nolan is directing.

Co-wrote the script too, apparently. Obviously WB are unhappy that they pissed their franchises away for some quick cash, especially now Marvel are showing how it should be done ie. by keeping the film studios tightly in check so they don't screw things up.

I'm not sure how I feel about Bale in the lead role. It could've been worse though. Imagine Ashton Kutcher or Colin Farrell or even Keanu? Blech!

Also wonder how heavily the script borrows from Miller's Batman: Year One books?

Dude, where's the Batmobile?

...Yeah, I'm pretty sure everyone could see that coming a mile away. Don't hate me because I'm figuratively nearsighted.

After having seen Equilibrium, I reckon Bale will make an excellent young Batman. He's got the chin, the eyes, the physique and the on-screen presence.

I always found Batman to be boring and it's most of it's adventures pretty lame. I like the character potential and how dark he can look, be he sure doesn't act that way, so it's a bit meaningless. IMO, the DC universe never came close to the Marvel one.

As for a movie, well, if it's anything like the last 4, I'm not the one that will go see that in a theater.
