Need help restoring corrupted mp4/gp3

It's a short clip that was taken with a mobile phone (Nokia 3110c) and got corrupted - how, I have absolutely no idea. Now everytime I try to replay it, the player crashes, i.e. the phone reboots. I moved the file to a PC, but no program seems to be able to replay it properly.

The problem I have is that audio and video aren't synchronized. Nokia's media player fast forwards the video in 2 seconds, whereas audio is replayed at the proper speed, the clip being 39 seconds long. Could there be some vital information lost, like an index?

I'v tried to demux the file with MP4box, but it said there were no valid streams. Is there any chance to restore the file into a playable state? If there are any experts here could you point me to a better place to ask for help, I can also send you the file for inspection, it's only 800kB or so.

Thanks in advance.

PS: I hope this is the proper forum to ask, feel free to move my post.

I had tried VLC already and it didn't work. Even if I could get it to work on something, I'd still need to fix ie. repair the file so that it becomes playable again on anything.

Have you tried to split audio and video with Virtual Dub and putting them together again (Mind you, I have no clue if VD supports g3p)

Virtual Dub doesn't recognize the file type. I've already tried to demux the file with MP4Box but that didn't work either. The only application that sort of does anything at all is the player that comes with the Nokia PC suite, which incidentally has an option to convert to mp4, but that crashes if I try anything funny, like err, converting to MP4. At least it shows something and plays back the audio stream while all the other players out there simply roll over and die.

Help!!

How about trying Super by e-rightsoft?

pretty good tool for video and/or audio

I've had some mp4s that got damaged before... I tried re-encoding it as an MP3 using super and it worked then re-encoded it again as MP4...

might as well give it a try.

Although I have to tell you that their website is a little confusing.

It takes like 3 clicks to get to the DL area

But the software is free.. so i guess its a trade off...

Try making a MKV file with mkvtoolnix and then opening the file in VirtualdubMod.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far nothing has worked. It's always the same: Either the file type is not supported or there is a 'no streams' error.
