Naughty Dog interview - sharing code and best practice. *spawned

Well such ripple shader effects can be found in quite some games. Sure varying quality but some do it very good. As for water itself have you seen FC: Predator 360 version?
No, but said ripple shader effects can be found in quite some games not change the point that u2 use brilliant shaders surely not ordinary. The real bad things seen are surely the explosions, the worse part. But I don't shape the conception u2 means only good art. Because Brutal Legend could be a must graphically follow that logic. imho.

Does a technically accomplished game need to be unique? That other developers can use good technology shoudln't detract from other developers using the same. And UC1's surface wetness shaders were certainly impressive with the getting wet and drying out. UC2 is using lots of techniques, and managing to get them all running at a smooth framerate in high IQ. Few developers can create the technology to pull that off.

Thanks for taking my comments out of context shifty.

My whole point was that U2 is NOT PARTICULARLY AMAZING TECHNICALLY COMPARED TO SAY, KZ2.

Relativism.
Given there are things that Uncharted 2 does better than Killzone 2, I don't agree with that at all. The art direction only helps emphasize its technical prowess.

Yeah, maybe...but why did they downgrade the shadow quality? This was IMO the best thing in UC1: the sharp shadows really stand out as something special. Now, if you look at the shadows a tree or something like this cast, its ultra blocky and is constantly flickering: looks not so hot!

What is really surprising: in one of the videos you can unlock in the in-game shop, the devs explained that the revamped the lightning and that they are very happy because this solved their UC1 shadow tech problems ?!

Not to take anything away from both - I think Uncharted 2 and KillZone 2 are extremely impressive games. I certainly wouldn't put one over the other, also because they aren't exactly doing the same things and each holds their own very well.

A-flippin-men!

I can't even concieve the comparison as they are completely different games aiming for completely different things... (i.e. U2 aiming for bright, crisp, colourful and beautiful vistas... KZ2 aiming for dark, desaturated warzone environments). Surely that's an apples to apples comparison?

It's fine to say I prefer the art in game 'X' over game 'Y' but trying to compare the tech of games that not only have vastly different art direction but are completely different game genres also seems a bit silly. It's like trying to compar Gears of War to Banjo nuts and Bolts?!?

Anyways, I think for what both games are trying to achieve both technically and artistically, they both nail it excellently!

That's not how I experienced it? The shadows in UC2 looked much, much better to me. The shadows in UC1 were great also, but sometimes still blocky. What resolution are you playing this?

I guess I'll have to look again, but I so degree.

I have marked all resolutions and so I suppose that the game switches automatically to 720p.

For instance when you are in the chapter with the
tibetian village (just visited it again yesterday, as it is so good looking). When you are wandering around, just look at the shadows of the big trees near the 'cliff'.
I am not talking about Drakes shadow, but about the shadows of trees/leaves/bushes. If I remember correctly, the dynamic shadows of the trees/leaves swaying in the wind in UC1 (second chapter or so) were very well defined and hat rather sharp edges.

I suppose that it is not just my personal perception that tricks me and that I remember the shadows in UC1 wrong. Maybe some of you tech guys can explain/judge if the shadows in UC2 are technically better compared to the shadows in UC1!?

Why does every thread related to U2 in the Tech forums devolve into "vs" wars on which game looks the best?

Surely this isn't tech-related discussion nor should it belong in this forum?
