My site is up again and with a new volumetric fogging demo

It's a demo of volumetric fogging in something like a heaven and hell style theme. Full description on my site. Should run on Radeon8500/GF3/Parhelia and up.

The server will be back on the older esprit.campus.luth.se address on tuesday if everything goes well.

Feedback is welcome as usual. :)

Great stuff! The Sins of Thy Beloved is a nice touch, but I don't think my neighbours will approve--it's past 11pm here, and I was watching a movie on DVD. Stopped Se7en, started the demo, and got a nice stress-test for my surround system. My ears are still ringing. :D

Well done indeed. *thumbs up*

Heh, Humus, you ripped that "Hell scene" right out of a level in the original Unreal...

Regardless, just for the sake of judging performance under more realistic scenarios, do you think you can bump up the polycounts a bit? Would be nice to, say, add some high-poly objects (easiest would be spheres) and show a counter of tris passed to the video card each frame.

Yes, I forgot to mention that. It's the NaliLord level.

Well, I think I'd need to bump the polycount quite a bit before I get transform limited. Right now I'm doing all vertex processing on the CPU too as it doesn't matter much for this low level of polys. I'm working on another demo though where pretty much everything will be done on the GPU where I've seen quite a speed bump simply by using VAO. It will make more sense to add such a performance counter on that demo.

the page isn't working

Sigh. So I went to bed ... and now just woke up just to find that my roommate has turned the server off before he went to sleep.
Oh, well, it's up again ...

Could you add a 'No Sound' button, as well as NOT changing sound volume settings ?

Other than that, the demo is nice.

Adding a no sound option, yes, I can do that.
Does my demo change any sound volume settings on your system? That's odd. I'm using the BASS library and if something is happening to your sound volume settings it's either the BASS library or your sound card drivers, probably the latter as I can't reproduce anything such on my system.

I suppose it's not supposed to look like that?

Using a Radeon 9700 Pro with the 6166 drivers. No FSAA, Aniso or other stuff, all the "compability options" at default.

Very nice, but why must all your demos use 3d textures? I only got 0.1fps on my gf2

Well, 3d textures are a very useful tool that never really got the attention it deserves. In this demo one could possibly have used depth instead of radial distance, but it wouldn't look as good.

Hmm, not sure what can have gone wrong there. The right part of the scene looks ok, but then it seams like some polys somehow doesn't get drawn, or possibly that the near clipping plane is screwed up. Maybe you should try a newer driver?

The only later driver I can find is Dell 6194 or was it 6193, perhaps I'll try it later.

btw "laplace" and "dither" are also completely screwed up over here
it's drawing a lot of crap outside the actual "scen" and stuff

do you have a 9700 to test it on, or could someone else do it
perhaps it's just something on my rig

I can't switch to full screen on my GF3TI200

Do you get a messagebox telling you that or does it just not work? Also, what resolution is checked on the fullscreen menu?

The laplace, dither and shadows that don't suck are all affected by the same driver bug that has appeared in later driver revisions. ATi is aware of it though, so I hope it'll be fixed soon.

I'm still on a 8500. I have ordered a 9700 directly from ATi with the 40% developer discount one and a half month ago, it still hasn't arrived even though I've reminded them several times. I was told like a week or two ago when I reminded them the last time that it should ship that day, but apparently it didn't. :( Can't see what's holding it back ...
