Microsoft to Preview Xbox 360 to the Press
Two and a half hours with Xbox 360 for us, not you.
by IGN Staff

April 14, 2005 - Microsoft seems to be making a concerted effort to hype up the Xbox 360 in all territories, including the weakest link for the current generation Xbox, Japan. It was already announced that Japan-based MTV viewers would be able to get a glimpse at the new system simultaneously with America-based MTV viewers on the morning of 5/13 (that's Japanese time -- US viewers should tune in to MTV during prime time on 5/12). Now, according to a wire received from the company today, it seems that the Japanese press isn't being left out of the fun either.

On 5/13, the Japanese press (this includes us, strangely) will be invited to the Virgin Cinemas in Roppongi Hills, one of Tokyo's most chic areas (Square Enix unveiled Final Fantasy XII at this theater a couple of years back). Microsoft will be holding an invite-only event called "Next Generation Xbox Preview" at the theater starting at 11:30AM. The event will continue until 1:50PM -- a full two hours and twenty minutes!

We expect the first thirty minutes of the event to feature an airing of the MTV premier, but that still leaves almost two hours of mystery content. Perhaps the press will be given a closer look at the system leading up to E3?

Stay tuned to IGN for more Xbox 360 both on 5/13 and in the days and weeks leading up to it.

I wish I was in the Japanese press.

quick, start handing out 007 James Bond cameras and camcorders to all Japanese videogame journalists 8)

I wonder if there'll be similar press events in the US and Europe? And if so, where does that put the E3 conference?
