Um 1.5mbs?
You convert it to lower res or something?
Cuz 1.5mb/s at 1280x720 will look awfull.
Uploadig call of duty, ws_ftp says it will take 16 minutes.

I converted them to 856x480. It really doesn't look that bad.
Because you down scaled the res.
I'm keepin em hd, file size is quite small.
call of duty 2 is only 66mB vs 124mB for the 60 fps pos.

lol, what's the point of downloading highdef trailers when youre gonna compress them 10x?

bsplayer or mediaplayer classic, try that first.
10x? I've told you a million times not to exaggerate ;)
The point is that they get no help from your video card, if it supports wmv-hd dxva, and you need a really fast cpu to play them.
MPC can't play the trailers either
Here's call of duty 2.

I don't think you need to compress them or change the resolution or the mb/s value. Just cut the framerate in half and you'll see them in full glory. You won't loose much in my experience this way. Sure you'll lose frames but the motion is fluid enough at 29-30FPS.

I haven't tried this bsplayer so I guess I will soon as it could save me ALOT of time ;)

My computer must suck because I just tried that Call of Duty HD video and my computer still chugged. It was better than the one MS put out be still kinda bad. :?
Have you applied the dxva patch?
If you video card supports wmv-hd accel, it will greatly reduce cpu usage.
I can play the 1080p clips with 65%~ cpu usage on a 2.1ghz barton.
If you haven't get media player 10, install http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E61-4BD6-8408-1FD6E7827CD8&displaylang=en
then install http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888656

damn you!

I'm on the work computer and they don't want people to download anything, so I'm going to wait until I get home. Thanks. :)

Thanks Jvd!

I thought I had already enable WMV acceleration though with Ati-tray tools?

It sound like this is specifically for wmv-hd content so is this even better than that or is doing the same thing or what?
Yes, the patch is only for wmv-hd.
Which is what my reencode is.
I'm working on a quake 4 divx also, but because microsoft won't let you convert from asf/wmv using traditional methods, I had to use tmpg and output to avi, which I can't see how to use multimass, so I'm trying out 3mb/s cbr.
edit: the call of duty 2 trailer needs fsaa... jaggies galore!

Define multi-mass and maybe I can help :)

If you mean that you want to encode more than one file at a time then you need to use the batch encode functionality.

What you do is setup a file to be encoded one way or another. You then save the project somewhere on your computer. (It's easiest when you set up the way you want to encode as the default project that way it's just load file and save as a project). After you have all your projects saved then you go down the file menu and select batch encode. Point it to where all your projects are saved select them all and then batch encode all your files. You can save the batch list first if you want though.

Hope that helps :)

Oh, you can then covert your avis or mpegs to wmv using windows movie maker or something if you want. I prefer to covert to mpegs as avis usually just come out as huge files using tmpgeng encoder. I'm sure you knew about movie maker. I was just warning you about TmpgEnc propensity to spit out huge avi files.

using that bs player I have no problems with the 60fps ones . I have an athlon 64 3000+ and a x800xt pe

Well the problem if that in order to convert wmvs or asfs, you have to use output to avi, and that's where I don't see how to save the project or anything.
I did get it to work, looked fine, but dropped frames, and I couldn't get audio to work.
I would have audio for like 1 second, the nothing.
I just ended up using windows media encoder.
Takes longer, but atleast it works.

Both the Ghost Recon and CoD2 trailers played completely smooth for me. Using WMP 10 on an A64 3500+ and a 9800 pro. You guys using WMP 10 or no?

I have to say GR3 doesnt look nearly as studly in hi-def as it did in the lower res trailers. Really good looking character models and the lighting was nifty (if a bit over done) but the environment looked pretty low in detail, especially the trees. Not much animation or polygonal detail and some pretty bland texturing in some areas. Has a very static look and feel to it overall at this point. But they've got a ways to go obviously, I was just surprised at the difference in the higher res. I will say that explosion is damn impressive either way.

Radeonic2:

The problem with Windows media encoder is that you can't mess with asf's. WMV's are fine.

If you need to deal with a file type the Wme doesn't like then TmpgEnc is by far your best bet.

If you need to save a project you simply use the save project command in the file menu.

If you wish to change the output type you need to look at the load button to the bottom right. There you can select templates such as those used for vcd's or dvd's. If you use a template though you won't get to mess with the settings.

The setting button is right beside the load button on the bottom right. This is where you can play with the framerate, GOP structure, audio stream etc for the vid that you would like TmpgEnc to encode. If you select a template and don't want to use it anymore then hit the load button, navigate into extras and select the unlock template. Now you have freedom with the settings again.

I'm sorry I had a brain fart earlier. The free TmpgEnc version 2.5 or so will only let you output mpeg1 or mpeg2 files and mpeg2 for only 30 days or so. TmpgExpress or etc will give you much much more freedom. You still primarily would output mpegs and use WME to encode wmv's but TmpgEnc can convert wmv's to mpeg in turn and this is true of version 2.5 or higher versions....actually most any version I've used but I haven't been using it for a while.

TmpgEnc is a very nice tool and I'll tell that to anyone. Nevertheless, it's not perfect and if you're working with wmv's directly you're right...WME is the way to go :)

What settings are you using with bsplayer?

I have a 3500+ an X800 XT PE, 1 gig ddr 400, using SP2, cat5.4. I have an X-Mystique Gold Edition 7.1 sound card with the updated beta drivers.

bsplayer is running the vids slow and the audio is popping in and out. This is similar to before when I tried to play vids the had not been re-encoded with WMP10. The only difference is that the audio has not degraded instead of being constant with slow playback on the video stream.

Maybe it's my setting or some other system part but bsplayer isn't working for me. It's looking like a TmpgXpress re-encode fest is a coming

I hope my settings are just bad...

I didn't touch anything just installed it and clicked full screen .

Darn! Looks like I lose then :( I gotta re-encode.

Why the heck did they put out vids like this in the first place when they were bound to choke the average system that wouldn't have the update installed or even if it was wouldn't work with their own media player? It seems kinda fishy to me o_O

IF your using ati mabye you should turn on the accelration and use the patch ? I did both mabye it affects performance on the bs player too. Read the thread i linked too

You don't understand..
There is no problem with windows media encoder, the problem is using an application like virtual dub, microsoft required they remove the ability to mess with asfs/wmvs.
I can work with the file fine with tmpg, but you can't get multipass avi when you choose output to avi, since as soon as you tell it what settings to, it starts encoding, so you cant make a batch job.
Now for the quake 4 video.
