MAG

Hah, I thought so. My play hours are probably too erratic to fit into any party schedule. If I catch you guys online after my business hours, I'll hop on. ^_^

We can always use another teamplayer.

I was just reminded what MAG is like playing without a party. I managed to destroy 8 bunker turrets in a single game. Of course I could not have done that without my squad not attacking it.

It's a shame there are no ribbons or metals for blowing bunker turrets.

The patch nerfs LMGs, but I think they're still the best guns with the foregrip.

And battle rifles are still way weak. Something I don't remember from the beta, but the Valor rifle has an enormous muzzle flash that actually obscures half of the 4x scope.

I did 4 respecs today to test the weapons out...the SMG really isn`t as useful as before and the ARs are not that much better. The shotgun got a bit better up close, worse at distance which is ok. You can`t circle strafe and snipe easily with the MGs as you could before, but they are still pretty deadly when you use the sight.
I wish I could use the other weapons more, but if your team or the other squad sucks I have to equip the KP45 which still rocks against a bunch of enemies.

What about the tier-1 MG ?

That's what I used. I did 3 respecs today. I tried the tier-1 MG some, then I specced into the battle rifle, into the tier-2 MG and then back into the tier-1 MG.

Tier-1 MG was the best. The battle rifle is just pathetic in comparison, since it costs more points to buy and equip and is in general worse at killing. Maybe under some conditions a scoped/suppressed battle rifle is excellent, but for regular duty I can't see it.

Played MAG for the first time after the 1.03 patch. I'm going to stay put. The tier-1 MG seems powerful enough.

What should I get next for Acq and Dom games ? My current loadouts are more optimized for Sabotage. Claymore and chemical grenade don't seem to work well on those open maps. I am thinking of carrying a med kit, a repair kit, plus an MG and extra thick armor.

On Acq/Dom games I use different loadouts.
For Attacking I have 1st MG/Medkit/Rocketlauncher.When the bunker turrets are down and it`s about to go against the bunker crew to blow them up I switch to my Sabo loadout with 2nd MG/frag or gas grenades and medkit.
Defending Acq depends on the bunker my squad is at. For the inner bunkers the Rocketlauncher and/or anti-tank mines is a must against the APCs. I also carry the repair kit. For the outer bunkers I start off with my Sabo loadout, when we have trouble and things get blown up I switch to one which has a repair kit.

If I'm squadleader, I spend more time looking at the map, informing people*, healing/repairing and calling in deadly junk from the sky onto our enemies than actually shooting at anything.
Mainly because that is the way I can help our side achieve their goals to the best of my abilities, because I suck at FPS.

*If we are holding every thing down and people naturally do what I want them to do, I'll shut up and just try to support them the best I can.

What I do find hard, is to play with random people, that only wants XP or a KDR or a ribbon etc. Ie prioritize their own goals before their factions goals.

You were doing a very good job of being squadleader in the last few games we played. Communicating everything we used to do as a party to whole squad. Like protecting anything that closest to our bunker, and pointing out potential weaknesses in our defence.

Whenever I'm playing alone, and I'm the only with a headset, I rarely communicate. Most people aren't going to listen anyway, and might not even speak the same language for all I know. If the squadleader uses the FRAGO properly, the game will communicate whatever needs to be done in everyone's own language.

But sometimes that isn't even enough to get people to work as a team. I got into a SVER acquisition game few days. The squadleader used the FRAGO and his headset to get everyone to attack the bunkers, but nobody would listen. He continuously attacked the bunker, while the rest sat back and sniped. I went for destroying bunker turrets again, taking out 17 of them, but we were never able to destroy a single bunker in the whole platoon. At the end of the game I got 1st place MVP with 460 XP, while the rest didn't even score half that much, and most of them with pretty horrible KDR's. Including the squadleader who never really had a chance by himself anyway.

For my next upgrade, I'm split between a repair kit, a full resuscitate, or a close quarter weapon.

I'd go with full resuscitate. I got myself because I like so much when I'm restored to full health immediately. You can get resuscitated in a battle and get shot down quickly with half health, and there is usually little you can do about it if you have half a clip left in your gun.

Yes, that's what I got yesterday. Now going after an improved heal since I don't have to worry about the weight limit.

I finally top my own little squad yesterday on APOLYCALPS3 night (Yay !). Have a picture to prove. :p

On Sabotage, I usually start out sniping. Then switch to MG loadout when I notice that no one on our side makes it to my scope (usually focused at the Objective). The defending side always get to deploy first. but they have to run to the Objective. When I start as a sniper, I can overcome their headstart by attacking right from the base (No need to run to objective). This advantage is most apparent in the Valor Sabo map. You can start shooting almost right after spawn.

On Acq and Dom games, I usually start as a machine gunner. Seldom switch to sniper unless the environment is condusive (Many enemies grouped together in open area).

I joined GAF clan a few times recently to build up my map knowledge and co-op skills. I have a better idea of where the objectives are in Valor Acq now. Really enjoy attacking with a good size team. Will continue to train up with them. They communicate a lot but the team structure is somewhat flat, which gives me some room for experiments.

When I play with you guys, I will welcome direct advices and commands. I think it works better for a small team.

MAG Patch v1.04 (currently in QA)

Very nice !

MAG Spawn Killer...uh, Killer?

I did encounter a spawn killer once. 3 Valors got into our base to spawn kill all of us. It's not supposed to happen but there is an obscure way to get in. Definitely would like that fixed.

The map balancing is belated, but what about the newbie guides ? ^_^

I think you'll find a wider spread of team skills now. It's rather noticeable. Some Valor teams are ridiculously good at attacking Raven base. Occasionally, you'll see the defending team switch around and attack the attackers' base instead.

The weak ones continue to do their own things (sniping, going solo).

Which gang are you joining ?

You should send a friends request to the following B3Ders:

Raven: Cornsnake, Opposed (macabre), Eyes (JPT), obonicus. They play with Ygg_Barasil often, but I don't know if he's on B3D. They are also in Euro timezone. I play with the GAF clan and the informal B3D party. So fill free to drop me a party note. ^_^

Valor: tha_con, nOoblet16 (nightshade). tha_con is in US (still Texas ?), and nightshade is in India. I think they have their own clans, it's good to piggyback on an existing group regardless.

I don't know any SVER in B3D.

I'm down for Valor. My friend is already in there, and having read the bio and looked up weapon specs on the MAG Wiki, feel Valor is more my style. Not that there's much in it.

Edit: In fact reading around, there really seems to be precious little difference the PMCs in terms of gear and possibilities. On average, weapons are shifted towards faster firing and lighter damage for RAVEN, and heavy damage, slower firing for SVER, but the difference on paper is miniscule. There are no specific equipment advantages either, so for all RAVEN's marketing spiel, they can't do anything the others can't like stealth suits, and SVER aren't stronger soldiers.

So apart from the maps, is there actually any play difference, or was all that a load of bunkum to randomly spread players across the three teams?
