I'm planning to get into some video editing stuff & have been looking for a good video capture card. one guy recommended Mac over PC for that task & gave an on how has PC (2GB RAM & high end hardware) was so inferior to a Mac laptop (1GB & with lower-end hardware) that was working on a battery too! so here are my questions :
Q1 : Is that true ? (Mac > PC for video editing)
Q2 : What are you recommendations for a good video captrue card ? .. its not going to be for a beginners work nor so professional. kinda in between ..
Q3 : Your recommendations for a good/best video editing program ?
Q4 : Any tips regarding video editing , video carpture & the needed hardware/software is welcome!

i'm going mostly to use it to capture videos from movies & TV. perhaps in i'll get into realtime work later.

Do you truly believe a platform change can overcome the barriers to performance "the one guy recommended"?
Well i never tried the Mac & thats why i'm asking you guys. he went on talking about how adding few effects takes like 20 minutes or something on his PC when his friend's lappy did it in just several seconds & only on battery (i.e. low-power mode).
quite frankly i dont tend to believe this (could be something wrong from the guy's side?) ..

so anyway i've got your point guys. now to the other questions ? ;-)

I thought both MAC's and PC's have the same CPU's/GPU's and it boils down to multi-thread support in OS/program which I think is about same for both (depends perhaps on what software you use).

1. No it is not true. I don't know why people still think this is true but Mac's have been using identical hardware to PCs for some time now (i.e performance is very similar). PCs are just generally cheaper. The only reason you would buy a mac is if you either like the look of the systems or you like OSX more than Vista. There are absolutely no other reasons to buy a mac.

And as for your other questions I'm not sure as I don't do video editing myself but I know Adobe puts out a app that is fairly popular in that field, I forgot the name though.

Adobe Premier ? thats what i'm mostly gonna start with , unless someone recommends me a better program.

what are you looking for in a video editing program
ease ?
power ?
price ?

ease = pinnacle studio
power = adobe premier
price = windows movie maker

Thanks for the summary. price is not an issue because my employer will pay for it.
i'm leaning more towards the ease of use.
