LB's Shadow of the Colossus thread

Baby?
That's Monsieur for you, loser!

Since I played, and finished Ico, the first and only thing I did when Sotc was release, was to... Import DQ8 and Radiata Stories...

Note that a friend of mine bought Sotc, and I played a couple of minutes with the game... All I could say was "Whoa great framerate! The artwork is good though... Now bring on Burnout Revenge".

I'm not sure if i'm more excited to have SOTC or about the fact that i can now play imports. That's freaqui.

Quietly sneaking back to being slightly on topic...

I found that I enjoyed the game a little bit more as it progressed. 4-5 Colossi in I was started to get a bit more emotionally involved in the game and feeling like I shouldn't be killing them. Some of the latter ones are more awe-inspiring in terms of the scale of the game (and a few are almost disappointing, but give a bit of variety). Taking a step back from the game and just contemplating what you (or rather your character) has just tackled...

It was the same for me with Ico - initially I just thought it was a laid back platformer, it was only towards the middle of the game that I found myself completely drawn in to the world.

Anyway, the ending is certainly worth playing for (least said the better until you get there though).

I know i know, the game is bound to get magical and amazing after a while, same for Ico really...
I just really wanted to open a thread that would change the mood from "WHERE THE F**K IS MY F**KING X360" and "I WILL WAIT FOR PS3. YES. I WILL. TRUST ME." threads that seem to be flooding the boards lately.

Right, beaten the 10th Colossus... maybe 11th... They're getting fiery these buggers!!!

Still no plot though, apart from the brief "thing" that happens after the 8th Colossus, which has very little meaning to me now to be honest... i guess the bulk of it will be the ending...

It's a bit annoying (in a good sense) to spend 40 mins minimum trying to find a way to get on the Colossi, find the weak spot and find a way to hit it a few times while trying to stay on them, but it's very very very rewarding when you actually do find "the way". Like, it took me FOREVER to find the way to defeat the huge sand worm thing... The one after that one i think was the "Fire Guardian", the bull-looking one, which was a bit underwhelming after the HUGE ones before it, but i love the cleverness of the whole approach.

Is it me or everytime you start your journey from the Shrine of Worship, there are more available routes at your disposal that you didn't have access to before? Or am i just blind?

The routes should be all open. Though I haven't checked that out....

And that sandworm thing was a pain in the ass. I still don't know how I defeated it. I just kept slinging arrows till it hit the wall. There's nothing more creepy than 2 huge orange eyes chasing you while half buried in the sand.

The fire guardian... was a complete fluke, took me an hour to figure out how to disarm it. Though hanging on to it was fun, like a rodeo.

The sand worm was easy when you actually figured out what to do (shoot in his eyes while riding the horse standing up - not so easy, took me hours to figure out).

The fire guardian, as soon as it hit the fire block things and the cutscene triggered, it was clear that you had to pick up the wooden bit and use it some way. It also really reminded me of Ico...
