Laptop producers

Can anyone help me with a list of companies that actually produce the barebones laptops everyone else uses to build and sell them? There can't be very many of them.

[strike]Sager[/strike], Clevo, [strike]Arima[/strike], .......
Compal, Inventec, Pegatron (Asus spinoff), Quanta, Wistron.

In addition there are other big brands who own (at least some) of their own notebook manufacturing such as Asus, Lenovo, LG and Samsung. And then there are some smaller players such as FIC, MSI and suchlike.

Sager doesn't make their own and Arima sold their computing business to Flextronics.

According to Digitimes:
Taiwan makers produced over 90% of the notebooks worldwide in 2008. The top-five notebook makers – Quanta Computer, Compal Electronics, Wistron, Inventec and Asustek Computer – contributed 88% of the shipments from Taiwan

I'd like to add that Asus used to license some of their designs as well. My current laptop is all Asus inside, with a different brand (S96S model).

Yeah, they did whitebooks for smaller OEMs (I had a vey nice one based on their W3-series). I guess that business (if it still exists) would be run by Pegatron too.

Thanks, that was just what I was looking for.

Edit: together with ECS Elitegroup (China) is that close to 100%. :)

A company that probably should be added is Foxconn. I've read that they have been expanding into notebook enclosures and have been getting contracts from big brands (one of which, Apple) in recent times.

They do however do all of their own design, in-house (something that's not true for everyone else, from reading previous posts in this thread...) Also, almost none of the brand-name marques do any manufacturing whatsoever anymore. Outsourcing is the way, these days.

Yes, but I believe what the OP was asking was which brands also license their own designs for other white-label companies. Similar to desktop PCs.
