Just STOP for awhile! /Reflections/

I know i´m a playman compared too many of you, i just should want to reflect what´s happend the last six months or so(my thoughts only of course)..

The thing that´s happend now when the FX-reviews has popped upp is that i must say i´m a bit bored, sure i read one or two(of course the Q&A here at Beyond3D :D ) but i feel that very many here just knowed and had that crunch in the belly that ok, we know it be a little faster here and a little slower there. Ok to be fair the Geforce FX seems to have been suffering from very bad drivers for the reviews card and i´m sure they vill
release something better when the card actually arrives.

One another BIG thing is the price/certinaly here in sweden and the rest of
EU/Europe, ex when the 9700pro "started" to arrive it was VERY expensive
an VERY rare, now you can chose from many different BRANDS and also
get the 9700, 9500pro and so on and last but not least the prices have dropped alot, and i can only assume when the FX 5800 Ultra arrives in a month or so that prices for the ATI Branded cards have dropped even a little bit more.

Well and now there have been so much statements about the R350 that i actually can see it on stores on a couple of months.

One thing that i been a little nervous about is the Cg and as i understand it
vill do that some games or demos that i may want too check out NOT vill work properly on lets say i decides to buy a ATI card.

Finally i vill buy a new card somewhere now in the spring so the R350 would be a clear contender, there have you been this talk about the NV35 and those reviews i look forward to as all of us freeks.. ;)

I finally can say that the 3d-card i vill buy vill be built on the criterias of
hopefully decent price, if they throw in a good game maybe and the AA/Anisotropic quality and performance, almost forgot GOOD driver´s.

Should not forget to say that you have learned a "little" more who´s of you that has REAL-INFO and the ones that mostly as i se it want to "impress" or "shine" with some that they think is COOL insider-info..
I´m not pointing out some but i think the most of you know who this users is.

Well that was some of my reflections of the latest time.
I hope it made some sense.. ;)

I get the points you are making I think. In my opinion, and I'm basically ignorant on this subject, nVidia has already created some very high performing drivers with the current Detonator series. I think they will have to try something new and different to increase performance. Maybe anisotropic can be made faster by using a different method. But then nVidia will also have to be careful to not hurt the image quality. I think that for DirectX 7 and DirectX 8 games performance without anisotropic filtering or anti aliasing on is about as good as it is going to get.

That's my uninformed opinion based on only a few scraps of information, I could easily be wrong. I think most of us gamers are very interested in seeing what will develop with Cg. For me, I upgrade often, the lack of it on my current ATI card does not bother me. We shall see what we will shall see. :) Cheers!

I wouldn't let the threat of CG dissuade you from getting an ATI card. If NV30 had been released last summer, with no other high level shader language available, then perhaps CG could have caught on. As it is, by the time NV30 hits DX9 HLSL has long been available, and furthermore it appears likely that ATI will have a larger installed base of DX9 cards for the forseeable future, so I don't see CG getting much support.

Game developers can fail to optimize, debug, or support features for one kind of card with or without CG. I would think that ATI's improving drivers, and growing mindshare and (presumably) high-end marketshare, will cause support for ATI cards to become better, not worse, in the future.

What I think is great is that NVIDIA is not getting away with poor image quality in reviews. So that would be two fronts that they were expecting some slack in the reviews, noise and image quality.

OT: I found this word "playman" pretty amusing. You obviuosly mean layman, but given you location (Sweden) and what layman is in Swedish (lekman) it looked like a really bad translation :D

The Cg-language "can" be used by ATI-cards or will they use ARB-ext etc.
Cg is like HLSL as i understand but not read that so much that i can say for certain.

The benches from Doom3 that Nvidia have on the reviews is this an indication that the first Demo vill arrive soon maybe?

You have right too a degree.. :D
It felt so right somehow with that word!
I tried to "combine" layman/playman so that you know that i play!

Well i play Humus//Swedish : Vi svenskar spelar ju på så mycket, V75 och en Dagensdubbel är mina svagheter..//

Overall i think you know way better english and seems very sharp-headed! :D

Sort of ironic that Nvidia gained preference over 3dfx et al from Microsoft by being the D3d champion only to pull a 3dfx type move and release CG ticking off Microsoft and pushing them closer to ATi who is now fully behind Microsofts HLSL and is rumoured to be getting the Xbox 2 contract.

It also helps that Ati just hired M$ ultra D3D Genius dude.. Phil somthing or other..

And a coupple other brilliant dudes from M$, and one or 2 ex Nvidia ypes...

Humus understood that i think he´s a smart-bastard, NOT because of patrioism :D

But well i started the thread with a intention of my thoughts of the last time and also because i´m was bored reading some articles..

I get a feeling that i maybe gave some needed humour to some and maybe the big mistake i made was in the Headline, i should called it learn me english and when we on it maybe chinese too! :D

I suddenly am not so embarassed by my own singing voice.

Don't take it the wrong way Humus...I'm just...err...inspired by your example.
