ipod video vs psp - getting interesting

Mobiles shall make both these systems obsolete.
Thanks, but I'd rather have battery power left in my cell for making/receiving calls with it rather than burning up all the juice listening to music or *gasp* watching video on a stamp-sized LCD screen...

PSP still has a bigger screen though, right?
Yes. iPod's screen is 2.5" @ 320x240. PSP's is 4.3" @ 240x272. Personally I wouldn't take a 2.5" screen serious for real media. Do you really want to watch a TV series on something so tiny? PSP's screen is about the minimum I'd like for a portable video player. Though if the iPod has a direct video out for full-size TV playback (like the Archos) it would be a lot more useful.

This is the first time im saying this about sony, and i love their company too. psp is finished. im so angry that i bought the damn thing. why didnt it have a built-in harddrive? why the umd movies if you have a memory stick? why the confusing interface? and what make ipod's interface so easy? it's...really...over... I'M SORRY PSP!!

Holy crap, it's a toy, not a diety!

From what I can tell the iPod games are just a bit less enjoyable than the PSP's.

you can hook the ipod up to a TV. that's all I'm interested in.
So it's really a rival to the Archos then, more than the PSP which is much cheaper, doesn't have mass storage, does play games and doesn't have the video out. In fact what on earth is this news doing in a Handheld 3D forum?!

hmm.. because the ipod gets in direct competition with the psp on one of latter's major consumer pro's - its videoplayback capabilities? which may not necessarily shake the psp's market position (whatever it may be) but will very likely affect the way sony is trying to market their handheld. i thought the sidenote about the newest psp's firmware update was supposed to make that clear. sorry that it didn't. bottomline - it's a psp thread.

why in hell did they make the umd movies? they got streaming video plus you can put movies on the psp's memory stick. why even bother making them?

Because the games (OMG the PSPis a games machine, and a very high quality at that!!!) come in UMD's, it's only natural that other content would be available on those discs too.
If there were nothing but games on UMD's, I'm sure someone would come crying "Why are Sony forcing us just use the expensive memorysticks for video, why don't they use the UMD and sell some movie discs with better quality!!"

Apologies for going off on a slight tangent, but has no one else seen the quality of the movie playback on the 2700G/Dell Axim?

I'd be angry if I bought the iPod for video viewing, that darn diddy thing doesn't even have fast forward / rewind function!! Talk about functional interface when a basic function is missing!
