Intel Icefighters Benchmark

I remember this being discussed and played with and whatnot back when it was released, but a search proves fruitless in finding the old thread.

Very odd benchmark, just what is going on that's so utterly demanding of all four cores that would cause a dual core machine to hang in near-zero single digit framerates while running quad core mode? (Obviously Intel might've intentionally caused this, wouldn't want a dual core doing as good as a quad core), still fairly silly.

I've ran it. You can also select in-demo how much CPU's is running atm. Quad core is definitely better than dual and dual better than single.. but that's a given. What's interesting is watching how much smoother things are when o/cing. At 2.4Ghz .. it's around 25-35 fps .. but o/c'ing to 3.2Ghz .. it goes up to 45 and higher fps.

You can also add and remove units .. and this also increases/decreases the FPS .. but it's interesting seeing how much things can go on there before FPS becomes a problem.

It's just that it's so visually simplistic and poorly detailed... Just look at the trees. What could be going on that's so mind-bendingly intensive? The AI certainly aint all that smart, and there's no deformable terrain or anything. It's as if it just runs bad for the sake of running bad :p

I haven't seen it yet, but could it be that everything is being rasterized by the CPU instead of your GPU?

;)
