Intel Acquires Offset Software

I don't like this at all, Intel buying up companies. I didn't like AMD buying ATi either...........I don't like the consolidation and conglomeration of this nature in the PC industry, it makes me really uncomfortable.

I have a feeling that the IT / PC industry is the wrong place for you to have an interest then.

Offtopic:

I just happened to be watching a Zetsubou-Sensei episode prior to reading this, and couldn't help but laugh at the irony against the last segment in that episode.

I'd watched a bit of the 1st episode a while ago and didn't really click at the time. After watching this i'll give it a shot. :)

Ontopic again, kind of:

Seems people have been commenting this regarding what's in it for Intel. However... what about the game they've been developing? Do they finish it "outside" of this deal? It becomes a "poster game" for Larrabee? Who publishes it now?

I know this is the console tech forum, not games... hmmm... let's look at it this way.. would intel be interested in a full game? What for? Showing off Larrabee... what kind of platform will use Larrabee? PC?...

(all this reminds me i have to re-read that larrabee thread :S)

I'm not really in the industry. I'm mostly a hardware nut but I do take an interest in the business side of things because I'm not a dev, I'm a consumer. However I do look at the different sides of issues like this, and honestly the more competitors and seperate companies, the better I feel. Intel and AMD should stick to CPUs, and not worry about other things. Microprocessors are what they do best. My only real concern with so many companies is interface standards and such, but that is kept pretty neat and tidy anyways. Honestly I would love to see Via get a much bigger share of the mainstream CPU market along with S3 Graphics, it would make things so much more interesting, and even though I completely understand the move from PowerPC architecture on Apples, I find it sad to see it go since it was one of the really defining features of Apple computers as of late. At least IBM has other outlets to let their excellent processors shine.
