Intel 2700G: A threat to Nvidia and ATI?

While I'm not in a position to defend his comments, Jon Peddie is not your ordinary analyst. He has a solid hands-on background in computer graphics and has been involved in the industry for decades.
Using his logic, you could just as easily say that the NV40 is based on TNT technology.

One doesn't even need to go that far. GoForce does not seem to be exceeding TNT level; even if, still not to the degree to replace "go" with "ge".

The Mbx technology seems to set the current benchmark in handheld/mobile 3d graphics so far. The tech is being integrated in the arm processors as well as being developed as a stand-alone graphics chip(in several different forms). Most of the competition only have stand alone chips which may or may not have some slight advantages in being stand-alone (probably non-power saving though).

These experts bagging mbx as outdated dreamcast tech might like to look at the oppositions handheld chips. Most available chips have very limited 3d capabilities due to the restricted size and bandwidth... here is where the limited bandwidth tech can stretch out in mbx. The mobile 3dmark might show this in the near future.

One must think why several of the top semiconductor firms in the world would invest in outdated tech if mbx is in fact old and probably past usefulness. This group includes the top chip makers and companies... Intel, Philips, Texas Instruments, Renesas, Samsung, NEC, STM, Sharp etc. I think nVidia and Ati would love to have all these guys on their books and paying them royalties for every chip using any of their tech.

ImgTech/PowerVR's limited size more than their business model without competitive partners, might stop them beating out ATi and nVidia with chip releases at times, however it doesnt stop them carrying out the necessary research and developing the tech. They have been able to match or exceed competition as shown with arcade, console and now handheld graphics chips alone in the past several years and even present day.
