FWIW, the controls are worth getting accustomed to as it's got some cracking boss battles later on and the controls will feel more natural. Don't expect a traditional FPS as it has a different but no less appealing charm, IMHO.

Don't feel bad. MP is oozing quality, but I hated it also. Well, not hated, but never got into it. I just prefer FPS controls a lot better and MP is not my type of game. GREAT game, just not my style either. Kinda how GTA and Halo are not everyones cup of tea.
Glad you are enjoying WW. A lot of people missed out on that title due to the looks.
I couldn't stand Metroid Prime. It's very repetitive. The entire concept of retracing your steps constantly and killing the same respawning enemies is really lame, IMO. They made a BAD FPS when they were trying not to make a FPS.
My favorite game for the system is definitely Eternal Darkness. It has a really cool concept and the story is quite good. Very atmospheric.
Other than that, I also like ExtremeG 3 and F-Zero GX. F-Zero is ridiculously hard though.
The Rogue Squadron games are pretty but very shallow. Star Wars Bounty Hunter is sorta cool-ish. Waverace Blue Whatever is a good followup to the N64 classic, with lots of improvements to gameplay.
Resident Evil 4 sounds like it's a gotta-get, but I haven't tried it yet.

But that is the point: MP is not a FPS, it is an adventure game. It just happens to be in the FPS perspective. I think a lot of PC gamers expect a FPS. And a Metroid game that is a FPS would be cool... for PC gamers. BUT Metroid has always been an Adventure/Quest game. It would be similar to disliking a RPG with a FPS perspective because it is not a FPS--it was never meant to be such.
Personally, I never really enjoyed the Metroid series a lot (great games, just not as appealing to me) and MP was more of the same. Meaning it is a great game, just not something I am into. It is very rare you will find a game that almost everyone likes. I know people who dislike Tekken 5, GT4, and so forth because they just really are not into fighters or racers. MP is a great game like Tekken 5 or GT4, but that does not mean it will appeal to every gamer.
Btw, I have zero interest in RE4 also
