LAS VEGAS (Reuters) - A British man who sold all his possessions, including his clothes, stood in a rented tuxedo on Sunday surrounded by family and friends and bet everything on a single spin of the roulette wheel.

He won't go home empty handed.

Ashley Revell, a 32-year-old Londoner, sold all his possessions in March, took $135,300 to the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, did some low stakes gambling and then placed everything he had left on "Red."

The wheel was spun, a crowd of supporters including his Mum and Dad from London went wild, the ball bobbled over the slots and landed on Red '7' -- and Revell walked away with $270,600.

Nah. It would have been real balls if he put his money on '00'.

But then he probably wouldn't have won. ;)

anybody taking over 130k into a casino ain't hurting...

I guess that depends on your lifestyle, 130k goes quick when you have a family.

Yep - but he did do it as part of a Sky TV show. I expect he would have been well remunerated even if he had lost so there was no real drama anyway.

*Yawn* :)

Exactly what I was thinking. Brilliant really. The TV contract was probably worth more than what he won, so even if he lost, he "won". Good move on his part. I think I'm gonna go try it tomorrow... Maybe I could get 60 Minutes to follow me... if they don't take me seriously, I'll fish for a contract with MTV's "Jackass". LOL.

You have much better odds if you split it up and put a fraction of your money on most of the corners... but I guess it's not as dramatic that way.

well, now, that depends on your lifestyle. Most people here where I live support 3-5 kids with both parents making minimum wage and nothing more. Someone making $20k a year is considered rich by a lot of people. 30-40k and you become one of "those" people. More than that and you're either not living around here or don't show it.

Hey sage, your right, thats what i was trying to say. All depends on your lifestyle. Im sure in NYC 130k goes quite fast.

Anyways, i just saw your location. Are you still in ardmore? My dad and I (and a few dozen others) are planning on going there to visit a factory we invested in. We are hopeful that this company can spark the local economy.

Yes, I am still in Ardmore. Which factory did you invest in, if you don't mind me asking? Uniroyal? As for the local economy- you picked a very good time to invest in this location, it's starting to really get booming. Of course, most people are still making a cut above minimum wage but at least now there are enough minimum-wage jobs to go around! There are warehouses and such shooting up all over the place. Yesteryday our Jack-in-the-Box opened, and last week Christies Toybox finally opened as well!

Its not Uniroyal, its a new company called Carbonix. This guy developed a new type of coke that will reduce the price of the steel making process, has lower enviromnental impact. They have just finished building the beta plant, and and have gotten good results on the product from the alpha plant. If all goes according to plan, this company will be bigger than Microsoft (j/k ;)), actually this should make steel cost quite a bit less, a good thing all around.
