HDV on Blu-ray

Has anyone tried the Sony upgrade for the BDP-S1 for BD R/RE?
If so, does it play an M2T file copied from a HDV camera? The question is what else would Sony expect the user to play from a burnt BD R/RE? Possibly jpeg stills or AVCHD files. BD-J or HDMV could perhaps be derived from an M2T file but the added authoring process would no doubt degrade the quality further and make little sense compared to a component connection straight from the camera to a full HD (1920x1080) compliant flatscreen. A durable way of watching HDV material, without wear on the sensitive DV cassette, still appears elusive. Sony still favours HDV on their high end cameras but the path to Blu-ray seems difficult to open. The up and coming BDP-S500 and BDP-S2000ES will play R/RE discs but probably not M2T files from Sonys own HDV cameras burnt on their own BWU 100 Blu-ray burner.
