HD GT4 dropped on PAL release?!

I've a friend with an HDTV (plasma) and GT4. He's just got a component cable. I ask how HD looks, and he tells me it was dropped for the PAL release.

Huh?!

Any ideas why? Why take code OUT when it's in and works? The PAL release always comes AFTER elsewhere, so you'd have thought if anything they'd put more in (sometimes games do) but to take out this rather important feature?!

I'm gobsmacked.

No HDTV broadcasts, but plenty of sets sold (if you're willing to pay). His plasma's 1080i capable. Just got no games to run on it

it's the same with XBOX.
in the pal menu , you wont find hdtv settings. but it's purely a software choise.

most people mod their consoles to play on beamers or hdtvs

Yep only way is to chip the ps2 or the Xbox and get the NTSC releases.

Or hack your way through with the Blase VGA Adapter, which will only get u 480p anyway.

Any idea why? What possible incentive is there to remove a feature, even if it's only usable by a small fraction of your users?

Heh go figure... When PS2 and the others were released, there wasn't even a standard for HDTV in Europe. Ps2 is the only console that still provides options for 480p in games (Jak2+, most first party Sony games, Namco fighters...). But for Xbox and GC you just can't.

Also, the Blaze VGA Adapter (the software included is what makes the trick) allows you to connect the PS2 to any VGA monitor and get 480p for ANY game that is not field-rendered, whether it has the 480p option or not.

Not sure if there is something like that for Xbox or GC.

There are reasons, but they're all bullshit so it's useless to go search for them. There really is no excuse in the end, it's a freaking option, not hurting anyone.

Either way, PAL gamers get the shaft as usual.

This had better not be the case next gen. The "HD era" for all but europe? If MS don't allow and insist on hd-output for all pal x360 games, I'll ... ... cry.

I'm pretty sure HDTV support will be retained in Europe, it's only now starting to be quite present in shops, there's HD-Ready everywhere, and lots of information being handed out, so i'm quite certain we won't have a problem. If they cut it, BOICOTT. Everyone in Europe. :devilish:

Dreamcast is still the best in that regard.

What makes you say that?.

DC is the only console where just about every game supports 480p natively. This is because the system was designed for VGA too and can therefore output both its flicker-filter AAed interlaced signal and its proscan signal simultaneously, making 480p very automatic. As testament to that, even demo discs and code-breaking software written for it run in proscan.

99.5% of US Xbox games support 480p, so I would put it on par with Dreamcast. I had mine hooked up in monitor and the picture was nice. I Had Japanese Dreamcast put I quess the vga-adapter wasn't out at the time or I just hadn't heard about it, the picture quality would have been nice against PS1 :D
