If you can spare $6, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest you hook up for a month of Insider and get the full 8 minute trailer. After 3 of the 5 teaser clips, I was already fishing out my credit card.

Words just can't describe the goodness that this is.. from the graphics to gameplay, "damn!"

And despite it being a video, there was no chugging to be seen.. which is good, since I think a lot of us were expecting slowdown to come hand in hand with the fresh new look.

But yea, heh, WOW. How'd you like that Ghost commandeering GTA style? ;)

Is it a real gameplay video, or just a pre-rendered video directed to look like gameplay?
The camera angles in clips look like from a pre-rendered art.
Just asking, so I know if it is worth downloading.

Someone's using naughty language.....
Mods, isn't it more appropriate to delete that other thread, started by that one member, because it contains those F words.

Or pretending to be playing.
That would sure not be the first time in e3.

Deleted my reply, this sums it up nicely:

Who cares? That's a level from the game! Doom 3 didnt get this much scrutiny last year.

Ok, I haven't seen the video.
But the pictures that are in IGN (and other sites like Gamers.com etc..), and which are supposed to be from gameplay, are from such awkward angles, that I find it hard to imagine someone actually playing Halo 2 in those pictures.

If Halo 2 gameplay really is as good looking as seen in those pictures, then I'll eat my words.
I don't think it is impossible to achieve that in xbox, it's just that I'm sceptical towards all 'actual gameplay' that is presented this way (regardless of platform).

Whats strange about a first person angle? :p

I don't know about the pictures you're talking about, but the 8 minute presentation is a mix of mostly first person gameplay (well, 3rd person when on a Warthog/Ghost heh), and short scripted sequences (like the chase scene in the Tunnel, surrounded by Elites at the end, landing in the Pelican, etc).

From Chap's link, it looks to be a mix of pre-rendered and gameplay video.

But the quality from a hand held camera is not enough to claim it is good or bad as the video is too dark, low detail and small.

The gameplay looks interesting BTW.

What makes you think its pre-rendered? Looks very much real-time to me.. I mean, not to bash the game in any way, but no pre-rendered stuff is that bad ;) BTW, chaps link was terrible. The IGN Insider video is alot crisper (640x480).

Just my feelings for some cuts of the video, cannot see very clearly as the video quality is not good and I don't want to subscribe to IGN.

It could be that the pre-rendered stuff is delibrately rendered at a lower resolution, to look more like the in game graphics.
That would make the pre-rendered video not stand out so much during the game, and thus improving the immersion in Halo 2 gameworld.

Halo1 has no prerenders if i recall correctly. 8)

IF anything, those Halo2 "prerenders" are just scripted sequecnes, just like SH3. Everything should be realtime.....or...or can it be true that Xbox has finally blurred the line between fantasy and reality!!!   :p

Ok, that's just grasping at straws :)

Didn't we go through all this with the X02 trailer? Heh, I'd think Doom 3 would be far more suspect than Halo 2 in terms of pre-rendered stuff. Anyhow, hopefully someone from Bungie will dispel all these accusations (again, much like X02). If anything, IF ANYTHING, the cutscenes would just be ingame, scripted events recorded into mpeg for quicker loadtimes. But really, I've watched the video about 5 or 6 times now, and absolutely nothing looks suspcious. No raytracing, very realistic poly count, and most importantly, noticable aliasing.

Anyways, this one looks visually, and gameplay wise, incredible. Be happy, its rare to get those two together in one game ;)

It is not pre-rendered. As someone said, it would be pretty damn lousy pre-render for today's standards. Just look at the shadows and such... Framerate is also not 100% smooth (although it's very good) Someone WAS playing that. Maybe it was a recorded demo of someone's playback with HUD disabled, but it was ingame footage for sure.

Gamespot has direct feed video that contains several of these scenes spliced together into a shorter trailer.

When you look at it at high quality, it's clear as day it's all realtime - although great looking realtime.

There should be a video/audio format which can cranck any file (avi/mpg/mov/wmv etc) within 1 MB limit for us living in developing countries where net speeds are very slow and it is expensive also... ;)

Nod Marc.

Here are some high res, spruced up shots from the cutscenes in that trailer. Granted, this isnt Xbox IQ, but it shows that the textures, shadows, poly counts, particles, etc. are all very much real-time quality. They'd make for very, VERY shitty pre-rendered CG :p

All of that happens in the scripted cutscenes in the video, just at 640x480 4:3 with typical XB IQ ;)
