The game has a confirmed released date for November 2004 in Europe...

Anyway, the question is,

Anyone feels Sin City might have "something" to do with Sim City. I mean, just think about it, a Sim City game that lets you create your city with all the details, then lets you play in it GTA style...

I don't think it will happen at least in this generation, but how cool would that be...?

Of course the game itself would still be GTA (set in LA), but as a side feature, it could let you create your city, SIM City style, then let u go back and play in it with all the consequences of your decisions as the "God" who created it (high taxes will lead to unhappy therefore more violent citizens etc)...

I think they could do this in the next generation(s), it's actually a pretty good idea, i'm sure someone will steal it from me and make loads of money while i'm here broke as hell trying to get to the end of the month... urgh... ;)

GTA always seemed to me, to be the most excruciatingly boring game and its popularity continues to baffle me.

Nobie, u do agree though that a game like the one i thought of would make it much more interesting though... ;) I'm such a genious.

Think Sim City, with all the details, included the cataclisms (sp?)... the level of happiness of the city would be reflected in your GTA game... If u made a city that has 1% billionaires and 99% very poor people, the poor people would eventually turn to the few rich ones and it would be a complete riot in the city, all seen in GTA style...

LOADS of potential... Could do pretty much everything

I think GTA could encorporate a LOT of other possibilities to make it new and attractive, though I do think they need to retain a focus on its "easy play/sickly-fun" end to pull in the numbers it already does. If they can work things all together, that would be fine, but if they had different modes (A "story" mode to make it more like the current GTA crop, and a "strategy" mode that adds "Evil Empire-building" functionality to the game) they could pull it off without as many balance problems.

I don't know how much "city creation" it could handle technically, though... As far as making your own city designs and such. I don't think it could peacemeal things for the normal gameplay--too many headaches--but it could continue in the direction Vice City started and let locations be taken over and change hands, and gang warfare destroying places utterly.

Could actually make for an interesting strategic element to be able to use money, threats, and outright violence to increase your faction's power in the city against all the various elements: ordinary citizens, shopowners, police, politicians, street gangs, other organized crime bosses themselves... Each could carry their own benefits and consequences depending on what you actually do.

Heck, what would likely be MOST interesting would to be to have the typical GTA story/mission mode everyone is used to and have it lead INTO the "boss mode" upon completion--where you work your way through the ranks first, and then try to extend your influence to the whole city afterwards. (And actions taken in the one could mode even have effects in the other.) You should still be able to take control of henchmen to "get your hands dirty" as it were, so it wouldn't be pure strategy (boring to the typical GTA player I imagine) but a mixture of both; you can accomplish more and better through active control than leaving it to the AI, but of course you "get behind" on other matters coming up while you're carrying about your objectives.

What they could do could be quite interesting, but we don't know what they are doing and we certainly know what they don]t have to do to keep the teeming masses of GTA fandom happy. :p ;)

The Sin City -> Sim City connection is quite thin... :p

I'd put that in the "yeah, right" box for now.

I think Sin City rather refers to a real city just like Vice City refered to Miami, all the other GTAs had nicknames for real cities as well. So we gotta ask ourselves what is the city of sin? Where's :devilish: at?

I was getting Burned out on GTA by having played and watching my boys play GTA3 over and over for such a long time(was such a great game), but the time VC came out, I just wanted no more.. but the boys did and we got it anyways. Now, even they are completely uninterested in another chapter, its time to put it to rest and come up with something fresh.

Las Vegas.

Which is where I've been saying the next GTA will take place for a good oh... eight months now.

GTA, its a game that make me think twice, if someone ask me if I play videogames or not.

Sin City = Sun City ?
Will extreme racism be Rockstar's next card in making the game controversial??

I agree with cthellis42 that it would be much cooler if the game started with pre-set city and storyline, but after you get a high enough rank you'd be able to build and modify the city.

A few good indicators ripped from here.

* Rockstar's webmaster, Richard Kruger, has registered the domains http://www.grandtheftautosanandreas.com and http://www.gtasanandreas.com. There's nothing on the sites yet, but could Rockstar be guaranteeing they have these domains when they game comes out?

* In the first Grand Theft Auto, there were three cities. Liberty City, Vice City... and San Andreas. The first two have already been made, and this leaves a strong belief the third will be San Andreas.

* In Vice City, if you listen carefully to KCHAT, there is a football player on caled BJ. A caller calls in and says he doesn't know how BJ survived breaking his two legs at the San Andreas game. ~ Sent in by Andy. Coincedence? Maybe, or maybe Rockstar snuck in this little clue?

After having spoken with a handful of people close to Rockstar Games (we were completely unable to attain a single word from Rockstar representatives), IGN has learned that the makers of the Grand Theft Auto series are doing some interesting things with the Grand Theft Auto series. The game, currently rumored with the names Grand Theft Auto: Los Angeles/Sin City/San Andreas, is, as you already know, not coming in 2003. It's believed to appear exclusively on PlayStation 2 in fall 2004. If Rockstar remains consistent with its release dates, that means it'll appear around October 22 -29, 2004.

Apparently Rockstar North (formerly DMA Design) has formed two new-ish developmental teams, not to mention the Manhunt team. One is working on the next GTA, which may very well feature online components. There also is suggestive talk about a new direction for the game, as well as speculation about either heavily revamping the current engine or creating an entirely new one. It's also believed to take place in Los Angeles, with a focus on the movie industry in Hollywood, CA.

Either way, the game is definitely going to be aimed at out-doing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, it's 7-million-plus-unit selling monster. The second team is in the very early designs with what we'll refer to as GTA5 (for lack of a better name), and is being created for the PlayStation 3 (which we suspect will appear, at earliest, sometime in 2005). Perhaps we'll hear more about GTA after the Xbox version comes out...

So we'll definitely be seeing the next GTA on the PS2, sometime in 2004, hopefully earlier than later. An online component sounds very interesting.

* See the side of the VCN copter? It says D193SA. Could it mean December 19, 2003, San Andreas? We know it won't be released that time, but if we're lucky maybe that's when they'll be releasing the information about the game!

December 19, 2003 came and went... was there any announcements about GTA4:SA?

Hm. I don't remember any, but it's all rumors and speculation though

Considering that the actual nickname of Las Vegas is "Sin City", then I wouldn't bet against you. If the final name settled on is Sin City, then I don't know how there can be all this other speculation over other names.

As for San Andreas, maybe it has popped up in past GTA's, but is it really a city you can make a modern GTA game out of? Heck, I've hardly even ever heard of San Andreas; are there gangs, drugs, and lots of money to steal there? How can you go from New York (Liberty) to Miami (Vice) to San Andreas?

Now, if they were to make a GTA based around Hollywood, that would be cool, but it would have to be named GTA:Tinseltown or something. But I'm sure there are plenty of corrupt scumbags in that city that would provide enough fodder for a GTA game. But San Andreas? Someone enlighten me.

Interesting info, but there's a confusing discrepancy. You say there are two teams, one working on the successor to GTA:Vice City, which is expected to take place in Los Angeles. Then you say there is another team working on "GTA5" for the PS3. Well, if GTA3 is GTA3, then GTA:VC must be GTA:4, right? If that's the case then the Los Angeles one will be GTA5, right? So how can the PS3 one be GTA5 then? Shouldn't that be GTA6? Is that a typo, or is someone making this stuff up very badly?

Wasn't San Andreas in the GTA games a combination of the real cities San Francisco and Los Angeles?

The real city LAS Angeles? ;)

Anyway, webmaster registring domain names months in advance and releasing a supposed devshot of a helicopter with letters SA on it, can any of you guys spell DI-VER-SION? ;)

Anyway, wonder if there won't be trademark issues with "Sin City" as a sub-title, as that is a comic by famous artist Frank Miller.
