Got a computer problem, need help B3D!

So my computer got damaged, and it won't even load to Windows now, so I thought I should back up my important files on my Hard drive. So here's what I did. I connected my HD to my friend's computer, and ran it through his Windows account. Now, it will allow me to see my files, but not access them. It keeps saying something about not having permission to access it or something. How do I get around that?

Please let me know exactly what I need to do step by step. Not being a jerk, just that I'm not as smart as some of you, so I gotta be more careful.

Also, if any of you know any alternate ways I could access my hard drive and back it up, feel free to mention that. Thanks in advance!

Yeah, I tried to do that. One problem however was that there was no 'security' tab at all. :/

Assuming that your friend is an Administrator of his own computer...

Start -> Run -> Cmd.exe

(IF your friend is running Vista, you need to disable UAC to make this easier)

From the dos box, type in the following: (I am assuming your hard drive shows up as letter E:\ for this example)

CACLS e:\*.* /E /P Administrators:F

This will take a while. When it's done, you should have all the access you need...

Just picking "Run as adminstrator" for command prompt should do the trick on Vista, UAC or not
