Google taking over the world?

It will be interesting to see what affect e-paper has on the print industry once it becomes ubiquitous.

Absolutely. Philips is working hard to get it ready for production. I think that at this moment the two main problems are only the infrastructure, "packaging" and the refresh speed of the info on the "paper". The stuff itself seems to be about ready.

In the end it doesn't matter, as the pervasive nature of future computing is going to assimilate all media anyway.

For some reason you can't kill print. People love newspapers and books, and probably will continue to do so.

I don't think it matters whether print falls out of favor. The papers or books we read are just the end results of a communications system.

They may still print ink on paper, but the words and decisions will be made over digital networks. Network-based media will probably just change the font and turn on an ink-jet to cater to those who feel nostalgic.

The EPIC idea isn't about replacing paper.

It's about replacing the very mechanisms by which we communicate and learn about the world. Print media will just be the ivy they grow on the outside to make it look traditional.
