*God Of War 3 Thread v2.0 + Interview Stig Asmussen

I don't think the game looks anything like a painting.

The Hades level, Pit of Tartarus, and the end level are just some of the more painting looking scenes on top of my head. The lighting, the strong contrast and the dirty atmosphere are kinda conveying this oily and messy painting feel if you know what I mean.

Where did you manage to do it and with what weapon? I just finished the Challenge of Olympus so I'm just gonna go ahead and get all trophies.

^Tartarus where you get half a dozen enemies...just spam soul rip with hades Claw since it barely does any damage you can chain it till 1000. Just be sure not to damage any enemy with a heavy attack or else they'll die before reaching 1000 hits

Excellent game. The first I might actually finish since I started playing MAG. (Dragon Age, Darksiders, and Bad Company 2 I left halfway through. And Heavy Rain I haven't even started.)

I just arrived at some sort of labyrinth, I'm not sure how far that's in. But everything before that has been awesome. The boss fights are spectacular, the finishing moves put a smile on my face every time. I can't believe they got away with putting so much blood and guts in there.

I'm playing on Normal, which is a bit easier then it was in previous games. But I've never been that good at these kinds games, so I consider that a good thing. I was offered to take down the difficulty of the combat even further, but that was after failing a platforming section repeatedly.:???:

Are those things you can sometimes find that unlock stuff after you beat the game worth it? I have quite a few of those things now.

They give you powerups like unlimited Rage , full health etc etc...but it disable trophies for that entire playthrough if you enable it.

Ah, thank you. I just started Titan mode and like the PS2 games, some of the combat system inadequacies stick out... I could really use cancels and more freedom in juggles.

Are you finding Titan mode harder than the Challenge of Olympus ?
I'm yet to finish my first playthrough [titan mode] & so far it seems the only other hard trophy that I'll have to aim for once I am done with the game is, the Challenge of Olympus.

I have a technical question: the graphic is incredible but what the hell is it the terrible feeling of staggering when the camera views follows kratos especially during the run? The demo even with worse fps not have this strange / awfull sensation or is it only my impression? I'm not talking of motion blur.

I would expect it's judder owing to your screen refreshing at 60Hz while the game is outputting anything between 30-60fps. When frames are dropped, the same image remains on-screen, so some frames are on-screen for longer than others.

This is the reason games tend to target either 30 or 60. At 30fps locked, every frame is displayed for two frames, and there is a consistency in motion. Based on your post it is perhaps no accident that the demo spends far more of its time hovering around the 30fps area.

Just finished the game last night. I'm slightly disappointed with the ending, but that's probably because my expectations were so high. (This includes the cut-scene at the end of the credits).

Graphics were great, but the gameplay wasn't really anything new from GOWII. I wish they they would add real-time damage to the bigger enemies. It kind of ruins effect when you've slashed a cyclops 30+ times and the model looks the same other than the QTE sequences.

The sound was pretty awesome as usual and it fits the game perfectly.

So far, I've only viewed the making of GOWIII vid. Pretty good insight into what it takes to make a game. They remind me of some of Bungie's vidoc on the making of Halo 2.

Overall, I really enjoyed the game and I'm going to give it another go on easy to get some items I missed and then on to Titan and maybe even Chaos difficulty. Also got to get on to some of those Challenges.

Well, fighting on Gaia while she fidget around is pretty new. I had to learn how to move and fight upside-down in that scene. ^_^

I seem to remember areas in GOWII where you fought upside down on the ceiling or while scaling a wall. The Gaia fight reminded me of those levels.

The R1 + "O" was a good new edition and one that became very helpful later in the game as well as the "ram" mechanic..

Something I didn't mention that bugged me a bit in this game was the lack of response in the double jump + Icarus and the dodge roll. It is the same as GOWII, but it was something I was hoping that they improved. Other than that, I kind of expected a more epic ending -- it's one of those things where it would have to be something to really blow me away. As it is, I'd have to classify the ending as just slightly above average.

A great game overall.

During a boss fight ?

Also, I was told GoW3 added
some sort of magical boots ?

No, not during a boss fight. I guess I don't see it as new gameplay since it was something that was done before albeit on a non-moving structure.

some sort of magical boots ?
Yeah, I forgot about those although I hardly used them (it took too long for me to be effective) other than the areas that you had to utilize them. The same thing applies for me with the other secondary weapons.

I'm going to give it another go after some of the March Madness games are done today.

What do you guys think Sony Santa Monica will do next? It sounds like they want to do something besides GOW for a little while. Is there any other really good myths they could take on that hasn't been done right? I'd like to see there take on a Superhero game...to bad Batman is already taken.

Climbing the net and throwing down grunts were really easy. Dodging devastating boss attacks while constrained to upside down climbing movement gave me more trouble though. It's something I had to learn to deal with (died once there).

Yes, I suspected so. One of the GT reviewers mentioned that of all the new things, he loved the
magical boots
the most. Many times, gamers don't see the new stuff because we fall back to our own comfort zone.

EDIT: I made the same mistake in KZ2. I totally forgot about the partially destructible cover and played the game without trying it. It would have made one of the stages easier, instead of frustratingly difficult.

Are you finding Titan mode harder than the Challenge of Olympus ?

Yeah, for the aforementioned reasons. You shouldn't have any problems with the challenges, but one or two will piss you off for a little while. All in all, it took me about 30 minutes to finish them.

I'm at the Hades' fight and died enough times to get an option to switch to easy  I should stick to pokes instead of going for combos I guess.
