More GC news from CVG:
http://computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=170653

"Over 65 titles will be available for PS3 in Europe by Christmas"

"645,000 PS3 accounts have signed up for the Network. "That's almost half our installed base for PS3 in Europe." 186 pieces of content available, download tie
ratio of 12:1."

"Tekken 5's sold 103k, Flow 47k, Supr Rub a Dub 35k and Calling all Cars 31k"

PlayTV:

- "allows you to record a TV programme while watching another. Can receive SD and HD signals. Will receive Freeview, too.
You can export recorded videos to your PSP. You can launch recorded videos directly from the library.

- Connectivity between PSP and PS3 means you can use PlayTV's advantages on the go. The Remote Play feature helps PSP become "your very own live TV viewer"

- Can play live TV or every programme you've recorded on the way back home. The PlayTV library is pulled up on Mark's PSP, and he's now watching it on his PSP. He can switch back to the EPG on PSP and start watching his live channel immediately."

Trailer Reel:

- WipEout HD looks pretty sexy for a PSN game.

- WarHawk is shown. He's zooming around, running around, driving around, sniping around, and morphing into Lair via a splash screen.

- Eye of Judgement. Guitars and drums, pirate ships and men on horses.

- Heavenly Sword. Bits from the demo and elsewhere. Snowy bits, grassy bits, Nariko's bits.

- GT5 Prologue. It looks like the other GT HD Prologue wotsit. "All coming Christmas 2007 on PlayStation 3."

He's introducing MGS4. . .

Buzz coming to PS3 with Buzz! Quiz TV

- "For the first time in Buzz, me, you, anyone can choose the topics you want."

- "We've got everything on one disc." Movies, sport, telly, etc.

- Buzz wants more, he says. Internet play, for example. "Strangers are just people you haven't humiliated yet."

- You can create your own quiz questions, too, with Create A Quiz.

- Premium content. Downloadable question packs.

- Reevesy reckons it's the perfect game for integrating disc-based content with PSN.

Many of us will be eagerly awaiting the latest instalment of Gran Turismo, says Reeves. And Kazunori Yamauchi is here at Leipzig for the first time ever. He's in the audience. :D!!!!

- GT5 Prologue will allow up to 16 players to race against each other online. It will be 1080p, and have 50 cars and five tracks.

- He's going to show us a new video.

- The slightly sinister Gran Turismo elevator music is playing. Mechanics and drivers stand around VERY SHINY cars.

- Due out before the end of the year in PAL territories.

PSP trailer reel:

- WipEout Pulse

- Pursuit Force

- ATV Pro

- Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow

- Echochrome

He's saying PSP Slim and Lite will be coming to Europe in early September, and that we'll get black, silver and white models. He's holding it up.

He's announced the new "Go!" brand.

It's for entertainment and services. The Go! camera is already out, obviously - but he's got three new ones to announce! Woo!

- Go! Messenger is the first one.

- A firmware update in the New Year will add a program to do video chats and instant messages over Wi-Fi with other users anywhere in the world.

- Go! Explore is a sat-nav wotsit that helps you avoid speed cameras, restaurants and other things, says Dave.

- It's due out on February 2008. The actual content is free once you buy it, he says.

Over to SKY Services

- He says Sky reckons PSP is the ideal handheld for high definition video wotsits. It won't be available on any other handheld console or mobile device, he says.

- Sky content spanning sports, entertainments, sports, probably some sport and other Sky stuff.

- There will be lots of optional payment methods for the Sky stuff. . .
It's due to be branded as part of the Go! thing when it launches in early 2008.

FIFA, EA and PlayStation will be holding an Interactive World Cup with Fifa 08'

- Players all around the world.

- They're playing FIFA 08. It's obviously a bit further on from the proof of concept stuff I saw in May

They're playing SingStar and shouting "scheisse" a lot. SingStar Die Toten Hosen. They're on stage! Woo! ;-)

Davey Reevesy is back and announcing the end of the press conference. He's just wrapping up.

Wow @ TV stuff - I _would like_ eventually to buy a PS3, a PSP and a DVR - now I would try to by just a PS3+PSP instead.

Meh @ the gaming-related non-announcements.

I'd like to remind that ShockAxis is only a rumor...

Anyway, I hope the DVR stuff comes to the US.

Buzz for PS3 was pretty much the only new game announced, and while it'll be a sure hit and I'll definitely pick it up for some casual gaming with friends, the keynote left wanting more.

The PVR, PSP GPS Navigating and PSP "messenger" were very exciting news on the hardware front, though.
Seems the big let-down was the non-announcement of a rumbling SIXAXIS, but the GC is not over yet...

Hmm, I wonder if the tuner will have a cablecard slot. It seems that Sony is going the use your own stuff route versus the Cable/Satellite Provider route. I would love to ditch my existing DVR, but need access to the encrypted paid for channels (HBO). Do channels like HBO/Showtime/Cinemax exist across the pond?

The TV tuner supports British digital OTA (over the air) only - it does not support cable. So this isn't nearly as interesting as most people think.

Now, if they come up with a similar box that supports cable TV...

The PSP is UK/Ireland (sky), but the PS3 is UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain using the DVB.

Well, it's been clear from the minute it was announced it would be terrestial only, and for many it's interesting and good enough. Me included.
The PSP remote play capability by itself is the selling feature to me.

Is the SKY TV on demand limited only to PSP, or is it for PS3 and remote playable on PSP?

Hmm, surprised Super Stardust isn't in there.
It's not as old a game as most the other titles.. Maybe that's why it's not mentioned. Otherwise I can't think of a reason.

Anywayt he high score screen had more than 35k entries last time I checked it a couple weeks ago.

Some may have shared the game amongst friedns but I expect that most on that list actually paid for the game. Most people porblably don't evne know you can share games between console.s

I didn't until quite recently.
Peace.

Wonder how the PVR will work.
Does the PS3 need to be fully on all the time, or does it "wake up" when a scheduled program starts? Hope they put a "standby" feature in the next firmware update.
Will I be able to play games, Fold, watch Blu-ray movies and do other stuff while it records on the backkground? Will it affect game framerates if running on the background?

This and the next gen Buzz are the most exiting news on PS3 for the longest time.
It's sad, but now I actually look forward to Buzz more than some high profile action games.
Guess I'm becoming one of those "casual gamers"...

Even if it recorded premium and cable or DBS content, I don't see the appeal.

My Direct TV HR20 has a 250 GB drive and has dual tuners. It's very quiet, much quieter than the PS3.

When it's off and does a scheduled recording, it records it without turning on the whole UI.

Remember when @Home came out and people calculated the electrical costs of running the PS3 24/7? I can't imagine leaving it on so it could record shows. Or having it come on when it records shows.

Besides, I'm often playing while my DVR records shows. I'm sure DVR will demand some RAM and CPU resources.

There was talk when the Xbox came out that it could be used for a DVR. Nothing came of it.

I wonder if the DVB service will support MPEG-4. In Norway RiksTV will as one of the first in the world (I think?) begin to broadcast with this compression next month.
