GBA2 in development!

 third pillar?

This announcement or confirmation actually has me thinking if Nintendo really believes in the concept of their DS? Looks like if they're getting cold feet to me, because any sort of confirmation that GB2 is coming just seems like a bad move in relation to them promoting the DS which isn't even out yet! What are consumers supposed to think? Get a DS or wait for the 'better' GB2? They might also be questing Nintendo's confidence with the DS...

Nintendo has already pubicly stated that they don't expect DS to be a block buster hit, but it will probably be a hit anyway. Consumers will only wait for GBA2 if DS is too expensive. The DS is a desirable product and it will have a desirable price.

Well yes that's a theory, but not one backed up by this article anyway.

Well you roll your eye's at Nintendo calling DS a third pillar of its hardware business. Yet don't there actions show that ATM they are treating DS as a third hardware product line? As in they are prepared to talk about GB2 already because they see GB2 as a seperate product line to DS. Clearly the intention ATM is for both GB2 and DS to co-exist eventually. Wether this will continue into another generation (DS2/GB3) is the real question IMO. That will depend on how successful each system is.

Personally I've never been too interested in the handheld market. Wether the handheld was from Nintendo or anyone else. I never owned a GB, GB Colour, or a GBA-SP (owned a GBA for 6 months and then sold it). I did own a GameGear for a while but never got into it and also sold it. But DS interests me a lot because of its new unusual features. So personally I certainly won't be missing out on DS to wait for another standard handheld like GB2. I think most people interested in DS won't either because it offers something a new standard handheld won't offer.
