Gamecube, GBA successors underway

Peter MacDougall talks about Nintendo and mentions that work is underway for Gamecube and GBA successors. You can read all 8 pages here http://planetgamecube.com/specials.cfm?action=profile&id=368

but here is the key piece of confirmation that acknowledges Nintendo will have another console beyond Gamecube:

Nintendo is in the software business - to stay. Nintendo is in the handheld business - to stay. And Nintendo is most certainly in the home console business - to stay. Work is well underway on the successor technology to both Game Boy Advance and Nintendo GameCube.

Since the development of a successor console typically starts right after development of the company's current console ends, and ususally before the current console launches in its first territory, I am sure that Gamecube's sucessor was started on in early-to-mid 2001.

they arent actually under way.. they are just dispelling the stupid rumors
that the gamecube is the last console they will make (they made a comment before that they would not concentrate on new hardware now, but on games for the current systems, and some fruits turned that into "Nintendo is going third party!!!!"..)

Gamecubes successor wont be seen for at least another 5-6 years.

There is no difference in what you said and what Captainhowdy said.

Neither of you know if the next system is underwraps already or not.... bah humbug.

While neither of us actually knows if Nintendo's next console is in development or not, meaning we cannot prove that it is, or is not, because we cannot get into Nintendo's HQ (actually NTD) to see it-If a Nintendo offical says that Gamecube's successor is currently under development, I take that at face value. I assume he's not BSing and that in fact, R&D on the next Nintendo console & handheld is underway. Why wouldn't they be anyway, and what the hell is so difficult to believe about it? Also, why are people saying stupid things like "no its not" the exact opposite of the official word?

Finally, for completeness sake, weather or not another Nintendo console makes it into consumer hands is another matter entirely.

R&D is constantly being done. Obviously they don't have actual "GC2" hardware or even concrete specs at this point.

exactly. No doubt R&D has been going on since last year. paper specs won't even start to materalize until 2003-2004 with final hardware decided on in early-to-mid 2005, then development kits late 2005. (most likely that is the schedual +/- 6 months either way. with actual release in 2006 in the summer (Japan) and fall (U.S.)
