first jack III and R&C III screenshots

Looks nice I guess... Either they're rushing the games too much or PS2 is getting maxed out. Perhaps both.

You got the links mixed up btw. :) Top is Ratchet, bottom is Jak. Well, I assume bottom is Jak because it won't let me view the second link without registring. Stupid website...!

Very disappointed with the Jak III shot  I was hoping they had seen the error of their ways, and changed the style back (or even better, tried something original).
A colour palette consisting mainly of grey and brown is neither cool nor deep in any way, and the same goes for gameplay with no sense of flow or consistency.

Sly Cooper 2 will be revealed in the next Official PS magazine. There's a picture of the front page floating around the net, and it's completely legit.

Jak 2 was a much better game overall, IMO, and is selling faster than the first one. They would have to be crazy to go back to the old and tired formula.

The game had some of the most beautiful vistas that I've seen recently, especially during the sunset and sunrise, and most of it was neither brown or gray.

I do agree it is a bit early making a sequel when the others came out not long ago. It's the same concern I have with the Silent Hill series in that they are releasing titles to capitalize on the success of the series in a short amount of time. It's good for the short terms but it can be detrimental in the long run. Just look at the Resident Evil series. The series has lost its pizazz as you will and Capcom is slowly building it back up. I say leave it off and start anew with the new generation, even have one as a launch title to show off the PS3 yet still being a title that people will buy the system for...read: good gameplay.

The Sonic series had many sequels over its lifespan on the Genesis as did Mario on the NES, but the competition for platformers on those consoles were close to nil in terms of quality. Plus the fact that both of those mascots were the best thing to happen to either company in the consumer games business. Times have changed and so have the ways of doing business. Don't be like SEGA and completely skip a generation with a solid Sonic game, but don't be like many other companies and release sequel after sequel on one platform to capitalize on the success of its predecessors. Take the time to make it for the next platform and have it available when the market is still fresh and looking for a great piece of software in that specific genre that is still new to that platform. Basically what I'm saying is that people will be more ready for a new Jak or R&C game for PS3 than having another one come out for PS2 so soon.

Sonic, what you're saying is true. I would kinda rather have them work on different type of game, but then again this way they get to perfect their formula which is not a bad thing either. These are not some crappy teams who will screw it up, which is best evidenced by R&C2 which by all accounts ended up being superior game over it's predecessor despite only one year of development.

ND on the other hand has always released their games on yearly basis and always improved them (talking about Crash here) J&D -> Jak 2 was their first two year development cycle, which resulted in a radically different game.

My point is, both teams are extremely efficient and are not doing anything they haven't been doing regulairly.

For PS3 they will probably come up with something entirely new anyways. It's not like the people are buying their games because of mascot characters they use.

MGS3
JAK3
R&C3
SH4 THE ROOM

All should have been PS3 games IMO, Kojama wanted MGS3 on PS3 as confirmed in an interview but guess who wanted it on PS2..

It's something of a well recognized thing that platformers sell better with an established character mascot.
So long as the sequell turned at least decent, it had a much better chance at higher sales then Jak1 did, even without any real chanes to gameplay. The real test of the changed direction would have been if the same game featured two completely unknown characters.
For what's worth though, we do know that lots of guns and open ended mission selection are rather popular items in the western game market, so I'd say it's a good chance you're still right on that one.

Personally I thought that the art and story direction changes were incredibly cheezy though, but that's not really a gameplay issue - although it Can, in some cases pretty much ruin the game for me (it did in PoP).

Not to forget some of those beautiful mission stages, like the forest at the mountain temple.

Why do they always make sequels, instead of making new games? :(
Some people claimed Jak2 was to radical changed in regard to J&D ;)

I think Jak3 will be the last part of the franchise. Naughty Dog designed Crash for PSOne, J&D was designed for PS2 ... if they follow that pattern, they will come up with something new for PS3, but who knows ... maybe J&D would scale as characters a lot better than Crash. Either way, I would be happy.

That is some serious AA in those shots... Might as well post CGI, just as useful in my opinion.
Anyway, i think they should just call them Jak2:Extension Pack and R&C2:More Missions...

Which is fine by me, i mean i loved the games and i'd love to play more missions of the same games, but unless they do something different, then they're not really sequels worth of the name "sequel". In my opinion.

I mean they both look EXACTLY the same as the last 2 games... Touched-up screens and all.
