Final Fantasy XV [XO, PS4, PC]

Digital Foundry Analysis
This isn't good. Final Fantasy 15's new PS4 Pro patch lets frame-rates go unlocked while in the 'lite' mode - but the game simply doesn't hit 60fps as promised by the patch notes. Instead, it runs between 30-50fps.

So Lite mode 30 fps is gone. replaced with unstable uncap 60fps which is more between 40-45 during gameplay. Players don't have the option to have 30 stable fps anymore.
they are stiucked with either the uncaped fps or the high res mode 30 fps with stutters.

That's how I played Infamous Second Son and Killzone shadow fall back then. Much better than capped 30fps IMO. Lower input lag and less blurry in motion.

And bonus: The PS5 BC version will be much better !
Exact feelings here. 40-45 fps of infamous and Shadow fall was miles better than 30 fps lock ! At 40-54 it just gets the 60 fps feel already.

And Killzone and Second Son had excellent moblur to boot. FFXV has almost nonexistent motion blur, which results in judder @ 30 fps. In a perfect world I'd have the high resolution option without frame pacing issues and good motion blur. For a game that is so accomplished technically in many ways it's so strange to see the omission of moblur.

really? ... what are they thinking, too much work to add another option for caped/uncaped framerate? And still no fix for the framepacing ... o_O

New WIth HDMI 2.1 TV and variable refresh rate and I hope PS5 will be compatible with HDMI 2.1, games without variable framerate option will be a crime...
Just as games without properly working framepacing + vsync are a crime today...

I feel like it's an artistic choice, the battles in the open world are more demanding but that's when they crank up the motion blur. It's barely there when just traversing the world though.

Nope. This is a clever marketing ploy to make mass media and gamers starts talking about FFXV again. And then the next patch will address this and makes them looks really care with their community and gets them keeps talking about the good stuff.

This way this patch and the next patch will be the perfect 1-2 punch.

Leading the way into the first story DLC.

Gravity Rush 2 also does the 30fps smoothness thing wonderfully. Going from FFXV to Gravity Rush 2 feels like a revelation in smoothness of the movement of camera.
Is it all down to motion blur? Is that what UC4 and others are doing well, thats all?

Frame time that is consistent makes 30 fps looks smooth. Good motion blur also helps.

But motion blur that is too great makes 60 fps looks like 30 fps (see Hatsune miku future tone, it's free on PSN)

As far as I would be happy to see such improvements and features I' m always worried about optimisation. I think all hadrware taking advantage of DX12 will make things easier but does that mean that msot of those features are exclusive to Nvidia cards only ? Or would that be feasible with patches on current gen consoles and future scorpio patch or version of the game ? Also Tabata Showed a video of the buggy and saying they were working on modifying the terrain of the game to make it usable. But I believe technically it should ve been in the design of the game from beginning so they ll have to rework on the entire mapworld itself ? I finished the game two weeks ago only but there are still many things and quests to do. But all those DLC plans and such things even if it's not confirmed feels like a bit of backstabs for console players int erms of quality and experience of the game. But well.at least Luminous Engine looks mature enough now for future games. But would' ve loved to play the game in its true form with all those features.

It looked to me like most of the 1080 ti features are already possible on other open world console games. Stuffs like light probe GI, fur shaders. grass density and environment destruction are no stranger to Far Cry Primal and Horizon ZD. The only interesting thing is that fluid based flame thrower. I honestly think a 1080 ti could do TONs more for being that much more powerful.

Horizon does not look as it has GI at all. Without a direct light source the lighting is flat.

As I said before many open world games have problems with GI or bounce light. This also applies to Watch Dogs 2 for example. Although this has approaches of GI I am not convinced without sunlight in outside areas.
