Like ffxii a lot of the strategy happens outside of battle. You attack with certain weapons on a contextual basis, but you set which weapon to use for certain roles. So if you are fighting fast enemies it's important to slot a quick swinging sword as your primary attack (what they call your "ravage" weapon). If you are getting mobbed you might switch to a two hander which is slow but has a wide swipe to hit multiple enemies.the battle is hack and slash. its realtime. you hold button to hack and slash, hold button to evade.
imagine FF XIII but instead of queue command, you do it on-the-fly while holding the button.
Weapons also give you special attacks you activate with triangle. They have long wind ups and are hard to aim so you need to be careful. DUSCAE also offers a look at an activated powered up mode and a summon attack.
It's a pretty fun system and the enemies are tough and active enough for combat to stay exciting.
Technically the demo is pretty rough, though. The sub-1080p resolution results in a lot of aliasing and a general lack of clarity, but the framers problems are worse. Lots of hitching and stuttering.
