European BC now at 1782/2451

While we are on the subject of BC, I heard reports last week that people were cancelling their pre-orders to import consoles from the US because of the BC supposed issue (storm in a teacup as I like to call it)

So, effectively they have gone from 60+% compatibility to ZERO % as no pal PS1/PS2 games will work on a US PS3.

The stupidity of man.

Well it's not very hard to buy ntsc games.

Actually its much harder than finding PAL PS2 and PS1 games near you. Especially stupid if you want to play the PAL games you already own ;)

haha indeed.

Oh really?...
I doubt there are people who are importing the ntsc machine to play pal games on it, if those people are aware of the difference between the backwards compability issue and are willing to go the trouble of importing the machine, I'm sure most of them know about region codes. new or used ntsc PS2 games are easy to get and if they want to play all their games on one box, then importing is pretty much the only option.

Well depends how many are importing it and if they are aware of the things you mentioned. But from personal experience rarely people import in EU countries and those that do they either have modded consoles or have two consoles. They dont solely import because its harder to import every game they want to get.

Truth is I dont know what kind of peopel are importing it. I ve seen many people do crazy things or be misinformed on certain things regarding the PS3.

For example where I live some PS2 owners were paying for japanese PS3's sold at $1800! With practically non existing games available (apart from a few games like NFS Carbon and COD3 being sold at around $100 if I remember correctly). Also they werent informed about BR region coding and PS2/PS1 BC region coding.

They simply rushed out to get it just to have a PS3 first.

I even found one person wanting to get a PS3 at launch just to play Pro Evolution!

Nesh come on man. They went from 1,000 games to 1,800 in a matter of what 4 weeks. Don't you think/see that they are working hard as they can to get PSone/PS2 BC as perfect as possible?

Or one could argue they went from 99.99% compatability in the US launch to 70% in Australia and Europe. While it's better than some expectations, make no mistake, Europe are much worse off.

I am sure people who cancelled their pre-orders because of it are actually dumb in the most part and know absolutely nothing about anything.

These are people that obviously have loads of PS2 PAL games otherwise they would've order a US model ages ago.
