There are millions of cars sold every year with back seat entertainment "for the kids". I believe that consoles aren't too far away from being integrated into them. All the requirements for this are starting to fall into place. If there's already a T.V in the back seat, playing games is just as easy as watching a movie.
Take for instance, the Wii:
*Wireless controllers
*Wireless networking for the transfer of music/saved games etc.
*Low power consumption
*Small size means it can be easily packaged.
*Best bet would be to introduce a model that can play DVD's and replace the kid's dvd unit
Or the PS3, which I think will be a couple of years more down the track
*Blu ray unit
*No chance of kids accidently hitting each other with the controllers and starting a fight.
*Complete multimedia centre with wireless and a H.D.D so it can integrate with the car audio system as well.
But probably too big and too hot to package in a car.
Pretty much the same reasoning applies to the Xbox unit, sans the Blu ray currently. They do have the wildcard of being based in the united states, so they have better access to more manufacturers than the other console makers.
I think that the reasoning to include the consoles in the cars are pretty clear. Anyone who has an Xbox in the back seat will probably have an Xbox for the lounge, heck even if it's the next-generation from now. If backwards compatibility is maintained, then it pretty much will be a slam dunk between the home and the car. 5 million consoles sold in cars per year, almost guarentees that those people will have the same console in their home. Heck, you could even package it with the car and include it in the finance.
So what do ya think? I hope this is a good one, I've made some bad quality posts recently. OMG! So, not up to the standards of B3D.
