Crysis 2 PC edition OT

I've had this idea many years ago for PowerVR to get better support on the PC market. (Providing/Selling a 3D engine optimized for PowerVR & IMR alike, so as to have good support and offer a valuable product to devs)

ATi/NV already work hand in hand with many devs...
I'm not sure how that competition would be perceived...

What about the possibility of NV and ATI offering their engines up for use by other developers for free... that would create some interesting dynamics.

They don't have game engines, just some renderers tailored to run tech demos. There's a world of difference between the two, and if one started to modify such a tech demo it'd quickly add up to almost as much work as starting from scratch.

Smaller scale stuff like individual shader effects and so have always been shared with the dev community, not sure how often these have been used though.

The statement was based on the earlier theorising about NV/ATI making their own full games. i.e. what if they then went on to give away those game engines.

They'd have to develop said engines first, which would take 2-4 years and a new programming team, preferably with at least 3-5 years of experience. They'd also have to develop tools to build levels, create animations, cinematics, shaders, add scripting and AI, and so on. They'd also need a tech support team to help the game studios' developers, maintain up to date online documentation, create demo content, tutorials.

I guess you can see my point - this would be a huge undertaking, a multi-million dollar investment. Then they'd have to give away the results for free, knowing that it still won't help with the problem that their engine isn't multiplatform, so anyone using it probably still wouldn't have the budget to create the kind of art and content, and definitely not in competitive amounts, that'd really push and showcase their hardware. I see no reason to even try this.

POS game still won't auto update and there's no manual 1.2 patch in sight AND I still have that idiotic login problem.

I'm getting steam notifications that says "crysis 2 downloading" but I don't see any news about updates. What is going on?!

I think we need to stop the amateur hour going on at Crytek. All the "fixes" in the mycrysis.com forums are of the sort "try this" and "hopefully this works, give us feedback".

Either they don't have a testing lab, or the testers are morons, or they don't know their own game or they just don't give a shit.

Edit: Let me rant here a little bit.

Crytek has been all up in arms regarding piracy, but despite all their bravado and bluster, they did nothing to discourage it. Sure, they had online activation and that was circumvented. I think that was a given. How come it is so easy for people with pirated copies to play on RANKED multiplayer servers? How is that possible? There didn't seem to be a challenge, just plug and play.

I bought this game. I want to play it, but I can't patch it and I can't log in and I can't redeem my limited edition bonus stuff (log in and redeeming seem to be connected issues). This sucks so much.

I almost finished Crysis of Duty 2. Gotta say it got it's moments but the story is damn cheesy, respawns to many and waves of cannon fodder to much. I have to play the game in sessions as I get bored but I want to finish it.. someday. Msot cutscenes though are damn impressive. Graphics to but that only goes so far...

Cheesy scale 1000/10 (rat fest)
Story 4/10 (Dolph Lundgren movies anyone?)
Graphics 8/10 (dem textures!)
Music 6/10 (cant feel it)
Voice acting 2/10 (Dolph Lundgren movies anyone?)
Gameplay 5/10 (Out of date unicorn spam)

Come at me.

Meh... I never really got this new wave of american rock bands. They haven't had even a small taste of oppression or desperation in their cozy suburbs, they've just tried to act like some made-up rebels, never getting close to any of the classics in rock music :)

Anyway, just try listening to that theme song a few times, it can somehow get to you in time...

Well I have been moaning about it a lot so decided not to moan about it because I moaned about Bioshock when I first played it and ended up liking it.

And finally some good news, not played it too far but got into a good fight and it was fairly tough and interesting and whether or not respawn happens or they call reinforcements it reminded me of the old days and I was happy.

But still things are pissing me off, you will be glad to hear.

1. It looks after me like I was my mother, lift door, press this for that, do this, wear a thick jumper because it is cold out there. In original games you were left to get on with it.

2. The footsteps sound like you are running in hob nailed boots, they are far too loud. When you put armour mode on it is like running in hob nailed boots in a cavern where you have been playing with the audio effects on the software for your latest soundcard before turning them all off :) No wonder the enemy spots me so easily.

Is there anyway I can stop 1. happening, all the onscreen messages?

I keep playing the game in small bits as I give it another go, certainly it is not one of those games where the whole day passes in an instant.

OT , but I agree, "no wave" was the best.
