Console Forum Concerns

This thread is going to be held for a couple days on what the members of the forum think would make it a better place. If you have any concerns/complaints about the forum in general please post them in here. Any ideas on revolving thread ideas such as a monthly or weekly roundup of console and console game news or something like that. Any suggestions would help.

If you have any complaints that are specific about someone/something please address those concerns to me and jvd in private.

One suggestion....it would be great if mods themselves start some of new threads! Or than can post imp gaming news which can be converted into threads!!

What would be the difference if a mod posted a new thread or an average user like you or me posted a thread? They get the same stuff we do at the same time... or at least, their moderatorship has no effect on what news they get from the internet.

The thing I'd like to see more of is less bickering between all three sides of the gaming triangle for this generation. But I guess it provides for some interesting reading every now and then.

How about a monthly or weekly news thread that's for legitamate news only. We can break it down to hardware specific threads for all three console manufacturers and a software thread for all games.

We could also have a rumors and speculation thread that could go on monthly.

I think that would reflects badly on the forum. The idea of forum is about sharing. If mod posted thread has more legitimacy then it better be news site than a forum. I believe most people including me are here to learn about views of different people not just the mods.

Shouldn't the news go on front page ? Thats where I thought all the news go to for betond3d.
And is a news still "new" after a month ?
I mean whats the point of posting a news after a month or even a week.

The news that goes onto the front page usually isn't tied in with consoles in a direct matter. The members that post in this forum are here to discuss console hardware and gaming and whatnot. I'm just suggesting a few things that could enrich the forum so that members can get a better experience.

Rumors and speculation thread would be good to get away from the usual PS3/Xbox2/GCN2 talk. We could discuss other rumors and what not. Again, just a suggestion.

I haven't been around for a few weeks now due to stress, but one of the concerns/complaints that I have, is that the moderators are IMO too passive. Many threads often derail or feature the same old annoyances. I have written a number of PMs already (although quite a while ago), but think that moderators should actively read the active threads and warn members as they find them and not wait until someone PMs them. That's about it for me.

I read the forums alot during the day. Problem is if i go out to a movie or take my little sister skiing or something and i'm gone for a 4 or 5 hours there are threads that are sometimes 4 pages long that have never existed. Sonic and i don't get payed to do this. So it takes second place to our life. Just like it does to all of u. We both try our best catch everything but we all know its impossible. That is why we ask for u guys to help. After all its as much your forum as it is ours .

How about the ability to disable image linking from within threads and posts? That's probably a request for Dave, but maybe you guys can ask on my behalf?

I hate opening a thread to see dozens of pics embedded from other websites. The newest F-Zero thread is a perfect example.

not for nothing knightbreed but it does say there are pics in the tittle thread. I do admit that to many pictures are a problem for those that don't have broad band.

My concern is that both jvd and sonic have done a super job of keeping the console forums clean and fun to read for everyone.

I am so concerened in fact that I must applaud you both for your diligent efforts and remind you to not let this high standard you have already reached slip.

The console forums of old are a distant troubled memory that is quickly fading away in this new era of modship.

Most thread titles haven't any indication of pics. I have broadband, and the inline pics are still a nuisance - doubly so when people randomly link to some joe-schmo's website for a "funny" pic. Some of us browse from work in our spare time.

Anybody that links to some huge pic that ruins the forum table formatting needs smacked about the head and shoulders.
