I am currently replaying this game so I decided to create a thread about it.
The series is a critically acclaimed RTS franchise developed by Relic Entertainment (they've created Age of Empires IV more recently, iirc) and published by SEGA.
It focuses on intense tactical, squad-based World War II warfare, and it has destructible environments.
The game has cover-based combat, unit positioning, and along with combined arms strategy, that's essential to the gameplay.
It also has destructible environments, line-of-sight mechanics, and true to life WWII settings.
You can play as the U.S. Army, Wehrmacht, British Forces, Soviets, Afrika Korps etc, and there is DLC too (tanks, generals, etc).
You can play 1v1 to 4v4 battles. There are tournaments, and as usual the modding community keep the game alive.
Since I don't want to create a thread for each game of the series but one for all of them, I'll mention them all here.
Company of Heroes (2006) - the original. It added a lot of originalism to RTS with its tactical cover system, dynamic AI, and super immersive battles. You played the allied forces.
The original had multiplayer support via Gamespy (the servers are obviously down now), it's called Company of Heroes Legacy now. The "new" Company of Heroes has Steam support so you can play multiplayer online and other Steam features like the Worskhop.
If you see CoH Legacy on Steam, don't play it, just play Company of Heroes.
Company of Heroes Opposing Forces (2007). Added new campaigns, mechanics, factions like the british army and germany panzer elite, etc.
Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor. Published in 2009 it's a standalone expansion with new units, campaigns...
Company of Heroes 2 -2013-: focus on the conflict between nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. Adds weather mechanics, new factions and better multiplayer. The game received several expansions and DLCs; The Western Front Armies, Ardennes Assault, and British Forces, added more factions and campaigns.
Company of Heroes 3 (2023). The most recent release. I don't have it yet. It adds North Africa and Italy to the battlefield, new factsions, a dynamic campaign map, modernised mechanics but I guess it retains the core strategic gameplay and elements of the original, dunno.
