Combo Drive for 274+S/h

Thank you. I've been waiting for such a drive, and overlooked it's release last month. Playback support still looks a bit iffy with downsampled audio, but I suppose I can live with that. Best I can tell even analog connections are allowed to output full quality video, and in that case I'll be picking one up.

I have my order in, but it is currently on backorder everywhere I checked so it is hard to say when I will actually see the drive. I'll report back then though.

I wish a store in the US would have the LG GGW-H20L (Blu-Ray Burner) in stock.

Just got the drive, curiously a day early and moments after having just shown Silent Hill to a friend using my PS3. So I installed it along with the included software and put that Blu-ray disk in. At least from what I've watched so far; it not only looks just as good, it also sounds notably better when I switch to uncompressed audio from the analog outs on my X-Fi compared to the DD5.1 I was limited to on the Toslink out from the PS3.

I haven't bothered to do any HD DVD shopping yet, so I'll have to report back on that functionality later. Only complaint so far is that the CyberLink software doesn't integrate with VMC, but I'm downloading an update now which I belive will resolve that.

How is the actual noise of the drive itself. That is one of the important things for me with HTPC. I absolutely hate hearing a whirring while movie plays.

I've barely heard a peep from it. Have run into two problems though. First the included Cyberlink software is labled as "2CH" and while DD and LPCM tracks output surround sound fine, 5.1 TrueHD is recognised as 2.0. I'm guessing that updating to the retail version will solve that, but for the moment I'm holding out to see what other options might become avalable. Aslo, while every other disk I have plays fine, The Hitchiker's Guide to the Gallexy drops mad frames. I suppose it is becuase it is considerably higher bitrate than anything else I have, about 30-40Mbps MPEG-4, but I've no clue what part of my system can't keep up with that.
