Can this be true....475 for the 6800Ultra core now?

(Someone remind me of the rumored announce date of the R420, I can't seem to find it.)

There are two dates floating around:

April 26th and May 4th. Your guess is as good as mine as to which one relates to NDA's lifting and p/reviews appearing.

I believe the NDAs lift/p/reviews appear on the 26th and cards will be available in stores on the 4th.

For those of you who doesnt understand norwegian, the article says that nVidia will be changing the referance design on the GeForce 6800 Ultra and that will mean a delay. It will be in stores by end may.

They got this info from a card manufacturer, they also say that nVidia has something up their sleeve, but couldnt comment on it because that would reveal the source.

Guess we will just have to wait and see what changes nVidia is going to do to the referance design all the hardware sites have tested now.

They've obviously been talking to different AIB partners than me - All the ones I've spoken to have said their cards will be ready at the end of this month.

NV said 45 days from launch. 45 days from April 14 is May 28th

Well, to me within means any time up to the 45th day so possibly earlier but not later than. I really don't know why people are upset about the availability. I guess people just tend to irrationality when they get excited. Hard to blame them though, self control is difficult for most.

I'm just speculating here, but I'd guess that they wanted to give a 45 day limit "carved in stone" so to speak to keep morons like me from going around screaming that there is no way in hell they will have nV40s available in any kind of quantity in that time frame and it's going to be delayed just like the nV30.

Sorry if I seem to enjoy it so much, but I like watching karma play out like this. It's their own bloody fault for deciding to do a paper launch before they were ready to fill orders, they have no one to blame but themselves.

I don't know. Why do AMD and Intel paper launch new chips for months in advance? Why do businesses advertise their products and services in advance? My guess would be recognition. The local car dealership doesn't just advertise their sale on the day of but rather a week in advance, so that people are actually aware of the situation. I suspect it is much the same for most all business advertising. For example, one doesn't buy concert tickets the day of concert but weeks or even months in advance. It is good business sense that, if you are going to sell a product, people need to be aware of it.

Same as for the nV30 launch: they are optimistic as opposed to certain about nV40 chip yields. Plus, in this case, they know ATi is announcing and shipping RSN. One purpose of a paper launch is to discourage consumption of your competitor's product by announcing yours ahead of his, even though you know he may get to market sooner. It's a double-edged sword, though, because if your competitor's product looks better than yours on paper and he gets it to market sooner, then the strategy can work against you. But it really isn't uncommon for companies to announce new products before being certain about yields.

AND?! ATI has said launch then 30 days retail. hasnt missed yet. What nvidia card was comming out around the R300 launch? Oh yeah NOTHING!. not the same thang here, but digi is all over the july date like a ___________!
